Bad trannies?
Just tring to clear something up, I searched but no luck in finding anything.
Someone from an audi website told me that they read in a sport compact car magazine that the s2000 tranny couldn't take alot of abuse. he said they had to go easy on it till about 3rd gear. I'm curious as I had not heard this before and wanted to hear from some first hand experence.

actually the differential is the first to go, its really weak for repeated 5k+ rpm clutch drops. the transmission has a 1-2 grind that most people get, but i haven't yet(knock on wood).
That would probably be something of an exaggeration. There are a lot of us that put the tranny thru tough duty cycles, but haven't experienced any failures. Some of the MY2000 cars (the first year only) suffered from the 1-2 grind but it was almost always due to abuse. The syncros were modified after that year.
I have a 2000 and grind 2nd all the time. Haven't had any issues apart from that, and I really abuse it. Just this past autoX I was going backward in first after a mighty fine spin
