I just picked up an 89 Toyota Pickup for $500. I was told the engine was locked up from overheating.
Well, I unloaded it from the trailer and decided to hit the key. It turned over! Im thinking at most I will need a headgasket because it sounded like there was no compression.
In any case, anybody have a 22re laying around? With my luck, the engine is history, so Im still looking for another one.
Im gonna slap a lil .38 T3 on there, fmu, and run 3-5 psi. Bosch BOV. I wanna be able to make it up any two track w/out running out of steam

22R's are stout motors.....but they've been known to have hg problems, hehe.

Boost the hell out of it. Looks to be a fun project. I had a friend that had an older Toy 4x4 with 22r and we used to abuse the **** out of it.

 

do some research... its not what you think it is. Check the timing chain guides.

I dont think you can just toss an fmu on a mass air motor

 

you can, and it will work, but it sucks as usual. Also its a mass air meter, it doesunt use a wire, it uses this antiquated spring loaded flap thing, its really a crappy system

 

22REs are great. SuperT made ~500 WHP on his before the 2JZ went in.

He would have made more power if the manifold was a Full-Race product

 

So should I just use the stock MAF sensor? I was just going to route the turbo inlet through it, and call it good. I would think that the small amount of added air wouldnt affect anything too much.

yup...hehe, nothing else for me to do, except cut and weld

 

nice steal for 500 bucks. 22re's are a dime a dozen youll have no problem finding one. My 89 has the shitty 3.0 v6 in it. Yeah the one that dont idle for ****, has all the recalls, and you cant repair anything. Changing the oil takes a good hour.

I have some nice wheelin territory around here too. I tell you what, the whine of the turbo and the pop of the BOV will make the people up here on the trails run for cover...

 

Man, that is a great deal for a clean body and 4WD drivetrain.

22R's labyrinthine timing chain tensioners/guides or HG are valid opinions. You're supposed to pop the head off when putting a timing chain on those motors, and I know people who just l-i-f-t it a little and try to get by without a proper replacement. I also know people who can pop the cam gear on + off without removing the head, or so they claim - good luck trying.

I think .38 AR will be really crappy, go with a .48 if you want low spool. With .48 turbine, and regular T3 compressor of some nature, on a 2.4 liter you'll start spooling at ~1000 if there's load on the engine.

There's a guy locally running a GM 749 ECM on his T3 Toyota truck, his name is Jon, he might be able to advise you at little: galadar@worldnet.att.net

You might look into running dual Toy VAFs (Vane Air Flow - it's not a MAF as pointed out earlier) with an AFC like the Supra guys do to fit in more boost.

On the engine swap into Toyota truck subject, there's supposed to be a guy who runs around town with a lightly wrecked in the front mid-80s Toyota 2WD pickup, hood held shut with bungee cords, and a lightly modded 2JZ.

The rumor mill claims low 11's, you know what the rumor mill is worth, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. The non-4WD doesn't weigh anywhere what a Pigsupra does.

Yeah he probably would have made 1700 HP thanks to the collector design and the 304 stainless steel weld els.

Yep and they have great rear ends too. Handled 500 WHP for two entire seasons without a single breakage.

hmmm ... *evil grin*

 

1jz or 2jz...a 7mgte is ok, prone to hg problems. ive never seen one in person that has put down over 450.

 

the stock axles are badass. I actually run the slightly beefier (and wider) axle out of the toyota tundra which uses a 30 spline shaft, which is actulaly shared with a Dana 60. The housing already comes with a pretty beefy truss from the factory, and serious trussing is helpful, but definately not necessary. daves 22r truck is crazy fast tho, he must have huge ***** running on stock leafs like that... thats just scary/dangerous. did he have headwork?
