do i have to change my valve springs when installing new cams?
while i was changing my head gasket, i noticed that I think i have automatic cams, i am not 100% sure but it looked like my intake springs were not doubled up ( not sure, but they were green)
But my question is, If i get aftermarket cams such as either Skunk2 stage 1 cams or CTR cams, will i need to change my valve springs? or will i be able to get away with using the stock ones?

Never hurts to change valve springs on a 13 year old motor that you are putting higher lift cams in...
ITRs are cheap and drop right in, and you can rev to 8500 all day long and not worry about snapping anything.

do i have to pull my head off again to change my springs? i just changed the headgasket and really don't feel like puling the head off again
yes, you do have to take the head off again...unless you have a special tool for it. Dont really know what its called but I've seen it being sold at an engine builders show...Really expensive too.

the automatic motor only has one spring per valve on the intake side, the manual has a spring inside of the outer spring
mine had green outer springs.. with inners.. dont remember the color.. and brown exhaust springs, no inner.
I'm using portflow inners, ITR intake outers, and moved my stock intakes to the exhaust.
oh yeah.. 2000 ITR cams.
I would suggest upgrading springs no matter what.. because they are higher lift cams and your springs are OLD.
search for valve spring threads and read up.. good luck

you don't need to take you head off just take your spark plug out and feed a piece of rope into the cylinders then lightly crank the piston against the valves so they dont drop when you pull the springs off. then put the new springs in. when i put mine in iused a flat head screwdriver, it was kind of trickey at first but i soon got the hang of it. just take the screw driver and push real hard on one side of the retainer until one of the little clips that hold the spring on the valve clicks in. it should hold its self there until you get the second clip in and your good to go.
