Help a noob out please! -= Heater circuit malfunction=-
just pulled the cel off my accord.
it's on my turbo'ed accord, the o2 sensor prolly got knock out already.
it's cel 65 and 41
heater circuit malfunction
Oxygen Sensor Heater (Secondary) malfunctioning or defective oxygen sensor heater
what should i do? the thing is that my o2 sensor(primary) is replaced and it still throw me the code(soft code).
Should i go ahead and put on the secondary one or else what should i do?
thanks in advance

O2 sensors don't read very accurately until they get up to their proper operating temperture. that takes a couple minutes under normal operating conditions. They put a heater in the O2 sensor so that it will warm up quicker. This lowers cold start emissions.
If you can live with the CEL, it's not an issue. You are just putting out a little bit more emissions for the first couple of mins the car runs.

Sensor heater circuit is just a 12v power supply to work the heating element that's built into the O2 sensor. Unplug the sensor, check continuity thru the heating element with a DMM. If that's open, then all you can do is get a new sensor. If it's OK then you check to see if there's really 12v power at the plug. If not, then you gotta look for blown fuses or broken wires...

just saw this link posted. thought you might find it interesting. It's about how the O2 sensor works

My Helm book only covers '98 & '99, but for the F23A4 engine (is that what you got?), fuse #6 on the passenger's side is also involved, and there's a relay somewhere, too.

Your right, I missed the ULEV part.

put in new o2 sensor for primary and secondary, one code is gone.
Only code 41 is left, checked fuse the fuse is good.
what should i do? will it harm performance in anyway?

41 is the heater circuit for the primary O2 sensor. If it's like '98/'99, that's the one with a relay. Check to see if you have 12v power for that heater, then get a circuit diagram for your car (got a Helm book?) Check wiring & relays 'til you find an open (disconnected) wire someplace. We had you check fuses since they're easier to check & more likely to be the cause of the trouble. You're gonna learn to
your DMM...
Without a heater, the O2 sensor takes longer to get hot & start working. But I'm not sure whether the heater stays on & keeps the sensor hotter than it would be if it was just heated by the exhaust.

thank alot..i dont have the helm
where is the fuse located at? i want double check the fuse too.
what's the name of the fuse?
the heater is the black wire right?(i have 2 black btw)
I have the primary sensor extended(with solder and wires) for the header.
do you think that might cause it?

I'm not sure, I don't have my repair book with me. Besides, it's not for your year, so I gotta be careful about that.
You have a F23A4? In '98 & '99 that was fuse #6 on the passenger side. I don't know where the relay is located, I don't have that engine & I only spent a couple minutes looking for it. It might not be the same for '02 anyway.
The heater leads coming from the sensor should read some (finite) resistance. When the sensor is cold I think the leads for the sensor itself will look like an open circuit.
If you did an OK job soldering the wires, that shouldn't be the problem.

Just installed a working condition oem honda o2 sensor and guess what?
the cel came back on.
I checked the fuse, it's fine.
what's going on??

Have you checked the wiring And connectors back to the ECU?

I had same problem...Go to Autozone and for $89.99 you can get a shinny new o.e.m. o2 sensor...i thought it was my heater circuit when i got code 41 but it was the sensor itself... before you spend any money check your driver side fuse box located right in front of the door by your pedals. Chances are o2 sensor needs to be replaced.
tried new oem sensor also, same code.
the sensor got hot like **** after 20-30 second with it unplug sitting out side of the downpipe=circuit=working

Do you have access to another ECU to try?
