Default High mileage Type-R's - Still reliable?

Thinking about picking up a used R... From people's experiences, just wondering if high mileage R's (80,000+ miles) will maintain that amazing acura reliability? Like anyone with a 97 or 98 have 100,000 miles? Mechanically how does it still run??

how about just running a compression and a leakdown?

if all is well, by all means.

I think getting a used honda w/ that kind of mileage is somewhat OK...I think

is 105k with B's recently installed, daily beaten with no major problems what you're asking about?

MY 91 integra was at 160k when I bought it.

The current owner still uses it as a daily driver @ 230k running great!

miles are irrelevant...maintenance is the key

if the car checks out with good documentation service/maintenance wise...go for it.

I would say the exact same thing. I have sen cars with 20k miles with more abuse than some with 80k. All depends on how well the car was maintained previously

I'd feel comfortable buying one if it was well maintaned. I've got 170k miles on my 93 Si and really no problems so far.

Is maintenance just changing oil regularly, adjusting valves, changing timing belt & water pump, all filters and spark plugs? What other maintenance is there?

The reason I ask, is that I no longer goto dealers for maintenance and I perform my own. Besides the above what should be done?

I think as long as you follow the recommened mainteance in the helms, you should be fine. I do some things more extreme such as valve adjustments and fluid replacemnet (coolant, MTF, brake fluid), but I think thats a good guideline

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to sell my R next month, and I have never been to the dealer for service. She's got 75k and I've done all of my own work. I'm hoping the milage won't turn people away...

I just sent in some oil for analysis, and I will have the results availabel for the new owner. Maybe I'll perform a compression test, too.

My civic has 84K on it and two people learned to drive stick on it(meaning a lot of abuse) and it still runs great and the clutch still catches strongly. It's always had the proper maintenance....Honda's are hard to kill...

How much are you going to want for your R, Floyd? Send me an email man!
