Default piping size and type questions

Can someone enlighten me more about piping size and materials and its effects on the turbo?
From my understanding, smaller piping (smaller inside diameter piping) would affect the time it would take to achieve full boost, because since there is less cubic volume... it takes less time to pressurize the pipes?

also how does the material of the piping affect the turbo performance? is there any different in the use of steal or aluminum?

Do you think before you ask these questions or do you just start typing? (just kidding)

Material has no effect. Why would it? OEM charge pipes are ususally plastic. I'm sure someone will argue aluminum pipe has some cooling effect, and stainless is too heavy.

Diameter? Maybe some effect, but the biggest reason is construction restraints and pressure drop. A 2" pipe has more pressure loss than a 3" pipe, but you have to move a lot of air to make it worth the hassle of using 3" piping, after all, everything has to connect right?

Actually, if I understand correctly, smaller piping will not affect pressure loss but rather the amount of time it takes to pressurize the piping. Since there is less volume, you pressurize small piping more quickly, and thus spool up time is a little better. But obviously you flow alot less.

In most posts I've seen on this subject, 2"-2.25" should be fine. You'll know when you should go up to 3" piping.
