Default Giving up my 12s ls turbo setup in hopes of something better

I am about to trade my 92 ls motor with turbo kit for a 95 gsr motor with ecu. It also has cam gears, and some other little stuff. All in all I am not sure if I will be happier but I think that my ls motor will only take me so far. My turbo kit cost me roughly 1400 and my motor was about 500. I know it would be really hard for me to find a gsr motor with ecu for the same price. It should only cost me 1500 to duplicate my turbo setup maybe even better it. I have talked to some of my freinds and they all think I am crazy. WHat do you guys think about it.

If you can pull it off go for it. I'd take GSR over LS any day if I could justify the substantial price difference!

Its all custom and tracking down used parts that work well together.

Your LS set up runs hard. If u want to stay on a budget I say u run hondata and let me tune it. another 50whp in ur car it will really be a monster. But I agree, at the point where u max out the stock motor it becomes pointless to have the LS as it will cost just as much money to build it as a gsr, and the gsr will have more potential.

Yeah, I figured that if I get the hondata injectors tunning, some bigger slicks my car should run 11.5s or so. Which is bad *** for a street car. But if I do the same to a gsr It would be even faster HOPEfully. I just want my car to have stock internals and be reliable. I figure a gsr with a low compression head gasket and hondata tunned should make 290-320 range @10psi which would be safe and very fast. Which should put me right where I want my car to be a low 11s high 10s car.

Its a stock ls motor with a rev hard kit pretty much. After running such good times with low power, I just really want to throw together a turbo gsr setup and TRY to break 10s with a stock motor. With the exception of a low comp. head gastket and maybe some head studs.

why dont you just do ls/vtec? that would be the smartast thing to do. think about it, the money that you would spend getting a gsr building it then turbo charging it you could of built a bad as ls/vtec and boosted higher and you would be in the 11's. **** the vtec head by its self if you are already running 12.1 will put you in the 11's. well just my $0.02.

I just dont like ls vtec setups. I have never seen anything great come out of one. But then again a setup isnt dont right regardless of what it is its going to mess up.

your gonna need at least another 100hp to break 10's. thing is do u plan on pushing 350whp+ on a stock gsr motor?

i say if its a really good deal, I would go for the gsr anyways. If its gonna cost u alot of time and money I would stick w/ what u got cause so far its working out great.

The ls setup still has more potential in it. But the thought of a gsr really has me going. There is a hp and 1/4 time calculator somewhere, I cant remember what site though. With only 235whp I hit a 12.1 and I think it had more in it then that but I only got one run on slicks. I think that an extra 60-70 hp and bigger slicks with a few other things I should be well on track for a reAL LOW 11s car.

89 CRX HF = 1838 lbs
Added weight from LS swap = 75 lbs
JDMRiceMonster = 137 lbs

I 0wn j00 by 8 lbs

Could I ask what times you hit on street tires? I have almost the same setup, my turbos just a touch tinier than it needs to be.

yeah, I know. My crx is plenty of fun right now and scares me on a daily basis. Any improvements from the new setup and I will be happy. I guess I ma kinda excited this is my first "real motor". Its a joke because people talk so down of the potential of ls motors. But ls motors can make good power and run good times. I think many people on h-t have shown that. Oh well I guess I will see what the gsr can do all motor at the track soon, I am hoping for some mid to high 13s out of the box seeing how the old ls pulled of 14.5s

A freind of mine with a 95 civic hatch with a 6th gen front end conversion will be rollin my old setup. Fuel management was fmu and inline pump, stock injectors with a aem rail. As for the gsr its in a runs damn good for me not having the secondaries hooked up yet. I hit about 125 or so in 4th gear and then my speedo cable broke. No vtec and no turbo for the time being. I cant wait to turbo it, its going to be a beast.
