what would the compression test reveal if i have a bad valve???

 

It just depends on what happended. If you run a compression test you will notice quite a bit of variance between the good cylinders and the bad. I have a slightly bent valve right now and the compression is a little off in one cylinder. My buddy chipped a little piece off of one of his valves and when doing a compression test that cylinder registered at 35. The car still ran ok, but idled messed up when at dead stop. Just remember there is a slight variance between each cylinder so don't freak out if it is off by just a little bit. What are the symptoms?

 

leakdown test will show bad valves.

Compression test will show bad Rings.

Smoke at idle and startup= valves

Smoke at High RPM and heavy loads = Rings
