my friend put in some coilovers in his teg but when he hits bumps, the car just bounces up and down afterwards. is there a way to fix this or is it just the sucky coilovers?

what kind of coilovers are they?

my friend purchased a generic coilover setup from ebay for 100$. OMG the road was a trampoline.

LOL..
you need shocks friend (same as what the guy above said). the stock shock absorbers can't handle the stress of the stiffer springs and so you need higher-pressure shocks so the car won't bounce up and down.
some good companies i know off the top of my head are:
-KYB
-Tokico Gas Shocks
-Bilstein

The fact that you didnt mention Koni makes me shudder.

Koni is where the money is.

it also has to do with the type of coilovers cheaper ones use a cheaper type of spring steel and some are just off the wall bouncy but springs will definetely help some.

ok, you are wrong. A spring is a spring. The rates of any aftrmarket spring are a lot stiffer then stock springs, and spring have nothing to do with how bouncy the ride is.

that is all the job of the shocks, I am willing to bet he has stock shocks.

qaulity in springs is something that is determined by other factors, not bounciness.

by bounce what do you mean? is it like *bump*bounce*bounce*bounce*bounce or is it like a small bounce right after the bump? you should expect some stiffness if you lower your car, it won't ride just like stock.

Actually the spring has to do a lot with how "bouncy", i use this word carefully, the ride is. The softer the spring the more it compresses. The firmer the spring the less it compresses. A softer spring rated spring will compress and decompress more times then a firmer spring rated spring with the same amount of load.

Now, it's the job of the strut/shock to control this spring movement. When you say coilover do you mean an adjustable spring or a strut with a threaded body which alllows for ride height adjustment also?

What spring rates is your friend using also? If it's a pretty firm spring and you're able to adjust the rebound on the strut, i would turn up the rebound control a bit more. If the spring is too stiff and the strut can't control the rebound of it, it tends to feel "bouncy."

Edit: IMO, Koni sports are the way to go if he's looking for struts.

not sure what coilovers he has. but he doesnt have shocks for sure.

i got coilovers in my car but my ride is not nearly as bouncy as his. so i am assuming not all coilovers are made equal.

okay, some dude said he bought cheap coilovers from ebay, say my friend has cheap coilovers, will shocks cure this problem no matter what?? or would he also need to swap out the coilovers for some better ones?

New struts will definitely put you along the right path in HELPING the problem. But if they're cheap quality springs, then i don't see a cure in your friends future.
