Default Turbo B16 guys, How to gain 14whp for 150.00- Tell me if Im right

Okay here goes

I saw a post on clubsi where stock B16 cams were switched with GSR cams, the kid said it he got a net gain of 8whp and 1 tq. (say 90.00)

Then I was thinking a Hondata intake mani gasket, i cant remember exactlythe gain but lets say 5-6 whp and i dunno about TQ. (say 65.00)

Is this really far off or does it make sense?

Thanks - Fred

yea, those gsr cams are suprisingly good for boost. uprade the valvesprings/retainers & they make power well past the stock rev limit with boost.

well the point im trying to bring out is that you dont have to spend a lot of $ to gain 14 whp ... get me? GSR cams + Hondata intake mani gasket

I made 90whp by adding my turbo to my B16 at 6psi.. So thats 15whp per pound...

1 pound of boost = 15 psi - and wiv a home made boost controller ($5) that's 15whp for $5.... Now that sounds more like it ;oP

yes but that has it's limits depending on where you are at already. Fuel system and bottom end limitations. I think he was talking about power without raising boost

You are correct. He made 8whp (peak) and 1ft-lb (peak). He lost a little power down low too. I don't recall how much but it couldn't have been more than 3whp. He paid $75.00 for the used set.

yeah and then I thought to gain somemore power WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BOOST LEVEL u could add the hondata intake mani gasket and squeeze more out. I this might have constraints per your setup, but i thought it was something to post and see what other people thought. I mean if this does work that the price isnt that bad, IMO.

I'm hoping to get nice gains with the gsr cams over the 1st gen b16 cams, since they are supposed to be the weakest vtec cams other than the auto ones.

Is it true you need longer studs for the IM if you use the hondata heatshield?

I've been running the Hondata intake manifold heatshield gasket without using longer studs. The stock studs are working fine for me. I also know of quit a few other people who are also using their stock studs with the Hondata heatshield gasket. It might vary depending on application though.

I dont see why you would want to. Depending on what motor you have, tuning, and air flow, 4400 may be too low. I know when I put them in my b16, I'm going to leave it at 5k and not worry about it. Starting vtec too low can have a negative effect.

My bad...i thought you were looking for any cheap way to gain HP without uping the boost ...I think about this stuff all day, i pretty much set a limit @10psi for now and these are next on my plans to gain hp @10psi

Skunk2 intake manifold
Hondata intake manifold gasket
ITR cams and valvetrain
Co2 Sprayer
