Default did your new muffler get louder??

I just had a new flowmaster put on my crx a week ago. I did a tune up on my car, and an oil change today.... It seems as if the muffler is noticeable louder. Do new mufflers have like a break in period, and end up getting louder after they "break in"?

I guess my main concern is i have 2.25" piping, and a gutted cat... I am afraid that the gutted cat will cause me to blow my muffler apart? At least that is what some dood told me at midas, but he was probably just trying to scare me into spending more

LOL! Blow your muffler. Maybe if you welded over the hole on the end of the muffler you could build up enough pressure to blow it up but other than that no. People who work for most muffler shops are white trash idiots anyway.

ill tell you in about a week

i just got a new catback made up, 2.25", no resonator, straight through muffler. as far as i can see theres no way for it to not be loud but somehow it isn't really loud at all.
then again a friend of mine who used to run the same muffler said his exhaust got quite a bit louder over the first month or so as it broke in.

Their isn't really a break in period, basically the build up of carbon is what changes the sound over time.......and no your muffler wont blow up lol

there is a breakin period. The packing (steel wool or otherwise) is affected by the heat and vibration. Some exhausts will get quieter after a week or so.

Whoops forgot about the internals of the muffler and how heat would effect them but the carbon also has it's effect

I think the flowmaster i got is chambered? Which means there is no fiberglass packing or anything in it??
