JimFab xmember=loss of front jack point?
for those who have swapped over to the jimfab crossmember, did you lose ur front jacking point completely or are u just using the bar to jack it up? my friend just got his bar in 2 days ago and is dying to put it in, but i just wanna make sure what were gettin ourselves into by changing it. thanks
you don't use the x-member as a front jack point. least i don't. i've got my tranny as my jack point, but i am d series. and if i don't have the trranny in i use the frame.
Why use the tranny as a jacking point? All that does is put the stress of the front end weight on the motor mounts. I have used the stock and Z10 front crossmembers as jacking points before, no problem what so ever. Just dont use the moddle of the crossmember to jack it up, that is alot of stress for the center of the crossmember, pick a corner under the 17 mm bolts that hold the stock one on.
Dont ever use the X-Member for a jack point. That is a good way to bend it!
Re-Read your manual or even the what is says on the jack for the correct jack points. There are Four (4) of them, one next to each wheel.

Get the Midnight Performance crossmemeber you can jack the car up from it all day, with no worries and it is way light and bolts up too...way better than the Z10 and the JimFab crossmember

WTF is wrong with you guys, all CRX Si's have a factory specified and molded front jack spots directly on the crossmember near the middle, have you ever looked under your cars or read the manual!?

actually, YOU should read the rest of this post.. people are talking about how to jack it up stock.. so, um yeah.. take your own advice...
as for me, i was told by someone testing the jimfab that you could jack it by the stock location, right in the center.. i've had my crx for 4 years and use that as a jack point just about every single time.. have never had a problem.. even with the b16a..

I dont know about crx's but in 90 EX I also have a rear jack point in the middle, I've always used the 2 and never had a prob, if the aftermarket ones are stronger then why couldnt you use the middle?
When I have one wheel to work on in the front, I use the bolts on the crossmember to jack up the car, to put a jack stand under the subfram rail under the door hinge's side in use.
If I need to work on the entire front, BY ALL MEANS, jack it up by the FACTORY jacking point built into the front crossmember. If you look, it's reenforced in the very middle to mark where the factory jack can lift the car.
With an aftermarket crossmember, I'm going to jack up one side at a time by the bolt locations, since we loose the towhooks.
In the rear, I have ALWAYS jacked the car up by the towhook in the rear. That mug is BEEFY. Plus, I almost NEVER use the factory jack. I've got a deecent 3 ton hydraulic I use for working on cars.
Just my opinion, not the law.

if you're serious you need to do something.. i dunno what that is, but if you're worried about scratching up your cross member you can get a jack with a rubber pad.. butif your car is lowered, you'll scratch it soon enough..

Thats alright, I'm probley just dumb too, But I still would never jack a car up with the X-member. After seeing my friends 92 hatch one settle and bend right in half

maybe i should ask jim for his opinion. maybe if he says its strong enough i should suggest he make future pieces with an integrated jack spot on the bottom center of the bar so that for people who do still jack it up by the xmember, they dont hafta worry about it slipping. cuz that bar is slick. and i mean that in a good way
