Default In what HP range do you need to warrant sleeves?

Search is still down. I am wondering at what HP levels I am looking at to begin to need sleeves in a B18b block. I would just hate to build my motor and spend a lot of time and money on forged internals only to find out that I should have spent the extra $1500 or so for a sleeved block.

i wouldn't think hp range so much as boost range personally
but i would think 300hp and above is warranting for at least a blockguard, better safe than sorry

some guys run 15psi on stock sleeves at the track well tuned.
its not how much hp until you need sleeves its how much boost till you need them.

i woudlnt push over 15psi without sleeves.

cheezefrog DID have stock sleeves, until he cracked one. He was makeing 450whp without the 100 shot of n2o. I would say anything over 18psi and/or 350whp i would reccomend them.

I would say this is a good rule of thumb.

That is the rule of thumb!!! I am running 1 bar daily on my stock (Blockgaurded) sleeves. At the track 1.3bar. If there sleeves go, then I will spend the money to get them sleeved.

Actually, it has nothing to do with boost. HP and cylinder pressure is what cracks sleeves. The problem with the stock sleeves is that at over 300whp the least little bit of detonation will crack them. Detonation causes more cylinder pressure than horsepower ever will...

does detonation put more preasure on the sleeves then say the pistons/rods?

Detonation puts massive amounts of uncontrolled pressure across the combustion chamber and cylinder. Its hard to say where the pressure is going to be applied within the combustion. If tuning is on, you dont have detonation, you dont need sleeves.
