Default How To: Fixing broken strut bar stud

tools needed: Furious uncle whose has a good aim with a hammer + a BFH(big ******* hammer) and a strong sharp object between the uncle and the bolt

step 1: hammer it out

it should take a couple of hard hits to make it look like that.

step 2: apply new screw

Leave the broken studs to show the new studs what will happen if they decide to break on me again

Wouldn't it have been better to drill them out instead of hammering them out? Looks like the reinforcement plate isn't reinforcing anything anymore...

i tried that. the bolt is WELDED onto that "reinforcement" plate. only way drilling would work is if i disintegrate the whole bolt with a drill...too much time and effort.

i think that plate serves more as a washer. once i find some washers that will fit that i'll use them.

I still would have drilled it out. Using a bigger & bigger drill until there wasn't ant bolt left. then dremeled the Bolt head off.

Then replace the Bolt, even put a weld trac on it.

Your a wild-man.

Drill > BFH in this case.
