Car dies immedately after starting
Hi, I have an 85 Honda Accord-LX 1.8L. Today I went out to go somewhere and tried to start my car. It started, but immediately turned off after its initial rev. I did this about 20 times and the same thing. This happened the other day as well but it eventually started after 2 or 3 times. Nothing when I pump the gas. It just revs like normal then goes back to nothing. I haven't tried changing the fuel filters yet as I can't get to the store so I just decided to post here to see what you guys think.
no they dont, the car doesn't ever lose power. I was looking around and maybe it has to do with the main relay..although also from looking around I've seen that main relays only show up in diagrams on fuel injected cars..
I haven't had a carburator since my '72 Datsun, but FWIW...
Sounds like the orifice to the main or idle jets is plugged. Its only getting gas from the initial shot from the accelerator pump.
Time to overhaul the carb. That was always a normal maintenance thing & you used to be able to get carb rebuild kits from the corner autoparts store.
