wil this cause the check engine light to come on?

yes, if you have something wrong with the vss, you will not be able to engage vtec unless you have a vtec controller. the check engine light won tbe on right away, but after you go past 20? mph then to a stop.

we'll theres no vtec in my 1.5 dx motor; but I did realize that it came on after I drive for a little while

i have a b16, my electronic VSS isnt hooked up, so im getting a 17 CEL, but my vtec still engages....

cel17 can be more than the vss be hooked up or not . for example if your missing a screw or if somthing isnt pluged in the on the back of the cluster than you could get a 17 .. lots of differeent reaons.

When my VSS wasn't hooked up at the tranny on my 91 hatch w/ b16 using the PW0 Ecu my VTEC wouldn't engage. Fixed that problem though. ;]

On another note, I have heard several different answers to this question...Will a code 17 cause your motor to run rich? At least, richer than normal?

i have a 91 crx dx and i got the same code with the check engine light on. when i put my new transmission in i didnt have the speedo cable in the trans. far enough. i felt like an idiot. by the way my speedo didnt work either.

The speedo cable is loose by the cluster or on the tranny.Most of the time that's the problem.Yes you will have the check engine light appear after going about 30 mph.

speaking of running rich my car is with the code; im gonna try several things out tomorrow and see whats up with it
