Default Please answer a few questions for me on clutch fluid.

I pulled the cap of the master cylinder and noticed that the clutch fluid had a silver look to it and I'm not sure what's it supose to look like. Is it supose to have a silver look or is it that dirty? More importantly, please answer these questions for me. The search function is down.

1) What millage should the clutch fluid be changed on a hard driven R?

2) What clutch fluid would you recomend for a hard driven R?

3) How do I change my clutch fluid?

Thank You in advance.

P.S. The clutch feels fine, I'm just asking because of the look of the condition of the fluid. (If you understand what I just said I'm not sure I do.)

Correction: The slave cylinder is the one by the tranny. The one that actions the clutch fork or lever. You're talking about the clutch master cylinder, the one with the reservoir.

Personally, I don't change my clutch fluid by the miles. I do it by optical inspection. If it's not clear or clean, I just simply flush it.

That silver appearence is due to normal wearing of the master cylinder and its components. Need to flush it.

Then,

1) Already answered. (IMHO)
2) Honda fluid is recommended. I personally use Valvoline Synpower DOT3-4.
(The same I use for my brake system.)
3) The clutch fluid is flushed just as any regular brake sytem. By the bleeding valve at the slave sylinder and pumping the clutch pedal. (Always keep the reservoir full.)

Good luck,

El Pollo Loco.

OEM Honda Fluid part# 08798-9008 (i think, since i'm at home right now)

but I'm not sure about other types you can used. (I don't see why any differ?)

What mileage that is recommanded? I don't know for sure (since I'm always changing a clutch set-up every 25,000 miles ), but I can find tommorrow morning if you like.

nothing but pointless info i gave you.........damn, i'm tired

Use the stock fluid and change when it looks dirty. Clutch fluid is the easiest fluid you can change on the car, easier than the oil I think. Pretty much the same process as a brake fluid change only you are doing it to the bleeder screw on the clutch slave cylinder.

OK stock fluid it is, change fluid when not clear, and millage doesn't matter. But I need more on how to change fluid, something step by step. Something like the idiots guide on How to change clutch fluid Anyone have a link or can give me a step by step directions on how to do it, with maybe a picture pointing at the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder. Thanks again.

I don't know what fluid you're changing but that doesn't sound anything like the clutch fluid

If you come to the NASA autocross this Sunday we can do it then. It takes about 10 minutes. Just bring your DOT Brake Fluid and a Turkey Baster (the suction cup syphon thing...just go to Bed Bath and Beyond or Kmart or whatever). I'll bring the drainage bottle.

But, email me cycldav@optonline.net on Saturday to remind me. I'll be at the autocross late. I am going to Church in the morning and I will show up afterwards.

Thanks David. When you said to bring my DOT brake fluid do you mean to say that you can use brake fluid for the clutch fluid? If so I have some super blue brake fluid, if that'll work. As for the Turkey Baster I have an ideal as to what it's for, I think to get as much old fluid out the master cylinder as possible before the flush, but does it mater what size because I was thinking we might be better of with something smaller than a big old turkry baster.

That's why I'm using Motul 600RBF in my clutch line.

Same here, every ~2 weeks unless I'm headed to the track...for some reason my clutch fluid goes bad much quicker than my brake fluid.
