Tach Fluctuates
I know this is a b18c1 motor and this is the type-r forum...but I seem to never get responses in the integra forum. Hopefully posting here is OK.
For about 2 months, my tach needle randomly with skip back and forth around 3-4K rpm. Would this probably be my coil or ignitor? Could it crap out any minute? I don't feel the motor stuttering or bogging at all.

are you using a jdm or cluster or any thing other than your original one that came w/ the car? it might be b/c of the circuit board, (i.e. wrong year)
if its not that.. then its the circuitry.. its gonna crap out...

yeah.. I had that problem too. You'll have to replace the whole distributor.. well that's what I had to do. I've heard some people say replace the ignitor, but that didn't work for me.
OK...I actually have a pretty new housing sitting here. If I transfer my existing coil/igniter to the newer housing...things should technically be fine?

a way to test out the cluster controls is to take each device you suspect to be faulty and use a voltmeter and a controlled source of 12volts with the appropiate amp/ohm rating.
what will happen is as you decrease the ohm rating the needle will move in the clockwise direction, and likewise if you increase the ohm rating.
be aware the ohm rating should only need to fluxuate about 20 ohm to do this. (do not confuse this with k or m ohm, otherwise bye bye circuit board.)
if it works perfectly fine, then you can assume it is to do with the connection.
