Coilover Install, need some help...
ok, i just ordered some new adjustable coilovers for my 95 lude. my first question is how do i put them on, do they just replace the spring? my next question is, ok, i know you need a spring compressor to get the springs on and off the strut, but if you have adj. coilovers, could you just tighten them down manually ( by hand and wrench ) then slide them on? let me know, i can use some expierence. thanks

a coilover setup is spring and shock in one
you need a compressor to get the stock springs off but i dont think you need them to put them back on
dont need a compressor... you just gotta think.
lets see if i can explain this.
at the top of your stut tower under your hood you should have 4 bolts. while the car is on the ground you wanna loosen the middle one (thats the one that keep the spring under load. dont totally remove it though. do the same with the surrounding bolts, again dont totally take the bolts off.
start jacking up the car SLOWLY. that spring is under alot of load... it can damage something if this isnt done right. if you raise the car slowly you take the tension of that spring alittle bit at a time. keep repeating the process. loosen the middle one alittle bit more and so on.
this is very dangerous.... if you dont think you can do it, then dont. installing the coil over is the easiest part, they just bolt right up... adjust as needed.
i hope this helped out.

The easiest way to do it is to go to autozone and get a spring compressor. You wont have to buy it, just put down a deposit and when you take it back you get all your money back.
Remove the bolts on the shock and the bolts holding the upper mount onto the car. Remove the spring, strut, and upper mount all at the same time, ALL together. DO NOT loosen that middle nut on the shock. Once you have the whole thing off then put on the spring compressor and compress the spring. Once it is loose enough to move off the seats then remove the top nut and pull of the upper mount. This is the non-dangerous way.

You won't need a compressor to get them back on. The spring is probably going to sit a little loose if you're lowering the car.
I didn't use a compressor to take them off, either. I have an electric impact wrench, I just braced the bottom of the strut against a concrete wall and took it off with the impact gun. Ka-choingo. I had a friend helping keep it down with his foot. It's not as dangerous as you might think, but that's certainly not the recommended way to do it.
If you don't have an impact gun / air tool of some kind, taking that bolt off with a hand ratchet might be very dangerous though.
Alternatively, any shop would do it for you for $20 too.
