Generic OBD1 to OBD2 Harnesses: Do they work? Are they worth it?
I've seen these generic harnesses more and more lately and I'm considering buying one but I'm a little trepiditious about jumping in and purchasing one. I just picked up a Hondata s100 and I am going to use it with my 99 Si after I get done building up the B20 block that'll replace the stock block. With Hondata and Skunk2 wanting around $250 or so and these generic ones going for $150 or so I'm interested. I just wanted to ask if anyone else has had any experience with using these. Thanks for your inputs. Peace.
BTW, if someone can recommend a good ECU for my setup I would be greatful. I heard to avoid the P28 and get a P30 but they are like a needle in a haystack to find. If anyone has some good dirt on the P28 let me know. Thanks.

I guess you could call the harnesses that I make 'generic'. However, I have made over 1000 harnesses since '98 and they have all worked just fine and will last indefinitely (under normal conditions). Anybody want to vouch for the quality and longevity of my harnesses?
I can get you a P28 and set it up for Hondata.
If you need a harness or ECU please email me at kenji211@tampabay.rr.com

I was inquiring about their quality. I didn't want to fess up my money if these things are put together ghetto and half ***. I don't really feel like having to replace the things because of shoddy connections or crappy wiring. I just wanted to know if they were worth considering vs. name brand products that are similar in design.
A generic harness is fine. I bought one, works perfectly and has done so for a couple years. I've no first hand experience with Kenji's harnesses, but I think if you search this forum you'll find nothing but praise for his work.
As far as ECUs go the P30 is out of the '92-'95 Sol, so yeah it's going to be more difficult to locate. The P28 is from the '92-'95 Civic EX & Si. The principal difference between the two is that the P30 will seek a knock sensor. The stock Honda knock sensor is useless however and the P28 is cheaper and more readily available. I wholeheartedly recommend the P28 ECU for your application. It's what I'm running w/ my Hondata S200 as well.

I found out some more info about the knock sensor and discovered that it'll be pretty much useless for applications with larger than stock pistons. Since I plan on going with 84mm I guess it'll be in my best intrest to go with a P28. Thanks all for the info. Laters.
