What are these holes for on a B18A???
Wondering what the black bracket is for underneath the oil filter on my block and in the pic below. Looks too flimsy to be a mount, its really thin metal.

#6 is the bracket that holds the exhaust manifold to the block
have to double check the other i think that has nothing going in there the #5

thanks, one more that i forgot, in picture two the black bracket below the oil filter, my block has 3 holes there, what is that for? looks like a mount from the pic but the bracket I have that goes in 2 of the holes there is pretty flimsy
Number 5 is used for nothing and number 6 is used for the header bracket and number 1 and 2 are for the bracket to hold the intake manifold...

isn't the bolt hole #5 (I think) used for the front motor mount?
You really should use this even though HCP, HASport, and Place racing all say it isn't necessary unless you are running Hi HP... There is a major handling difference when this mount is used. We built 2 identicle CRXs same motor. One with and one without. The one with had better cornering. I dunno why.

Again I have all the numbered ones figured out, just wanted to know about the black bracket underneath the oil filter now. Also with building 2 identical CRXs you really cant be 100% sure the chassis is gonna be the same on both, front mount probably makes a difference but I doubt that alone was causing the change in cornering.
Thats the bracket that bolts to the header flange under neath the engine...it keeps the header from flexing on just the bolts that are on the exhaust ports.
Like if you look at a header, down where it goes into one pipe, you'll see a flange sticking off with two holes. Thats what bolts onto that bracket.
