damn smog laws
ok i have a major problem, i was planning on building ls/vtec motor but i just read the thread about its not possible to pass smog in cali with a head swap. the reason that this is a problem is because i was going to build it up slowly over a long time so i dont have to buy it all at once or buy a whole motor swap.. i was going to do this while i pay off my car but i cant do this now....should i just save for a long long time and buy a swap?? oh ya i dont really want to go turbo because of reliability issues any suggestions? damn this is shiiity
thanx for the help and all opinions are good

spade said that if the motor has a head swap then it is illegal and that is why it wont pass...ummm check the ls/vtec smog thread, ill find it for ya...jusa sec. mang
dude, passing smog is almost impossible now if you do a motor swap or any major motorwork. i might pass the tailpipe test but it won't pass the visual, it's gay, i know, my friend is still trying to smog his gsr swap in his eg, and had no luck in 3 months alreaddy, the car isn't registered anymore bc he can't get it smogged. i'm getting worried, my smog should come up in about a year
from what i have read, i guess that if you contact the local ref. he will give you the cans and cants of swaps..is his motor from a newer car? or is an older motor? these are some of the most common reasons why it doesnt pass...this is madd shiity though, good luck for your buddy and also for your future test
if you do a swap correctly you can smog any swap at the ref unless its got some crazy rediculus stuff like LS/vtec. most of our cars get the ref stickers.
