Possible cause of my fuel problems, ECT?
I have a 91 CRX DX which I swapped in a B18C1 into over the summer. I took that out for rebuild and recently put in a B17a. When I had both motors in, they ran very rich. I tried replacing the O2 sensors, adding a fuel pressure gauge (to check the FPR), new spark plugs and wires, checked vacuum lines, etc. Nothing solved the problem. THis is not just a little rich, fuel is dumped into the cylinders, so much that it all can't be burned and it comes out the exhaust. The exhaust manifold is saturated where it meets the cylinder head ports, the O2 sensors and spark plugs are black. The motor idles at 700rpm, but it blows out smoke and there is an extreme loss of power.
I am running a B17a w/ JDM S1 trans, PR3 ecu. I am getting only one code, that is for the VSS which I haven't connected b/c I haven't transferred over the speedo gear yet from the old tranny. No other codes. I recently unplugged the ECT sensor and let the car idle for 3 minutes. I checked and there were no codes. I am thinking something is wrong with the ECT and the ecu reads the motor as running cold constantly, even though my temp. gauge in the cluster works fine. I suspect the wiring for the sensor more then the sensor itself, b/c when I put the B18C1 in I had to extend the plug so that it could reach the sensor on the cylinder head, rather then on the thermostat housing. But how come it isn't throwing a code for the ECT sensor then?

I would gurantee that your fuel pressure is too high, I'd buy an adjustable FPR (VORTEC) and play with the pressure a little bit and see what happens. Do you have a aftermarket fuel pump that you know of?
Another thing if you have A/F check to see how far off stoich you are running.

Nope, i have the stock DX fuel pump. I know my pressure isn't too high b/c I got a B&M fuel pressure gauge. At idle, the gauge reads about 35psi. This is not high, in fact seems a little low?
The reason I believe it is the ECT is b/c the motor runs rich whether I have the harness plugged to the sensor or not. And even if it isn't plugged into the sensor, it doesn't throw a CEL.

700 RPM is not bad for an idle, is it rough or kinda jumpy........Try replacing your map sensor first and see what that does it just sounds like your not getting an accurate rading
when you pulled the sparks what color where they? Also if you can post a pic of them
