Dont just consider the weight. You need to take into consideration the rotational mass - if flywheel x weighs 9 lbs but retains 65% of its mass at its hub, it will spin faster than flywheel y which might weigh less, but with worse weight distribution.

don't bother Dave... everyone knows that the total weight is the MOST important thing when looking to buy a flywheel.

Good point Dave, but the problem is that weight distribution data is much more difficult to obtain than simple weight figures. I think when it comes down to it though, most people base their decision not only on weight, but on price, personal material preference (i.e. chromoly, aluminum), starter compatablity, and for some, brand name, as well. Obviouisly, some individuals will place more emphasis on certian atributes than others.

I'm curious, what exactly are the differences between chromoly and aluminum as far as flywheels are concerned? Is chromoly stronger than aluminum? Can one or both be resurfaced? I'm assuming chromoly is more expensive than aluminum, but I'm just basing that on the prices of what I think are available (ex. Toda more expensive than Jackson Racing).

I have the Spoon flywheel.

4.2 kg = 9.24 lbs

"For the ultimate in street and strip performance, choose the Spoon Sports Lightweight Flywheel. Weighing in at 4.2kg compared to the factory 6.9kg. This flywheel is not TOO light, so you won't loose off the line torque. Help your engine spin freely while making power with one of these Spoon flywheels. Already pre-balanced and comes with a new pilot bearing and flywheel bolts...simply the BEST. Will fit all B-series transmissions, cable and hydraulic. "
