few questions on d16y7 engine
first off, my friend gave me a motor that just been sitting there for 6 months. but when he did the swap, he didn't drain the oil or anything. would it harm the motor if the oil has been sitting there without being started for that long of time?
i've pretty much been refering to this thread to figure out what parts i might need for my swap. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=379441
it states that i need the 88-91 si distributor. but can i use the distributor that is already on the d16y7 motor? i'm pretty sure that i have to get the si dizzy, but i just want to make sure.
lastly, i did a search on how to clean an intake manifold and throttlebody. i found in one of the threads that someone suggested to use carb cleaner to clean it. but it might damage the sensors on the tb/manifold. does anyone else have any other solutions to this? simple green?
btw, its a real bitch trying to piece together a motor that's missing everything. thanks breaka_1_9 for motor mount offer, and crxsi707 for the intake manifold and resistor box!

To drop in a sohc vtec into an 88-91 Crx/Civic.I would just use the complete intake manifold,t/b,injectors off the 88-91 Crx/Civic Si and the distributor. The tranny and axles would also be from the Si.Good luck.
yeah i'm staying obd0. my goal is to take my 89 dx, and pretty much build it up like an si, but with a y7 block. i'm trying to get an si tranny, ecu, etc.
are you staying obd0?
David,
You should have asked me, I have the ECU from the same car the manifold came from. If you want it, shoot me a PM and we'll work something out.

brian - i sent you email.
btw, does anyone have an answer for my question above about the oil staying in the engine for over 6 months? and what about other methods to clean the intake manifold and throttlebody, other than using carb cleaner. thanks in advance for any help!

David you have mail.
In regards to your question, It shouldn't be a problem with the oil sitting in there for six months. Some people let their car sit for longer than that..... you obviously want to replace all the major seals while you have them out of the car mostly for peace of mind and preventative maint. I would think maybe parts wash would be a good solvent to use while the mani is off the car. Once you have it, get a throttle body cleaning/solvent kit from your local dealer or have them adminster one for you. I used to work at a Honda dealer and was amazed at how much carbons and buildup the car burns off when using those kits. I was a little skeptical but the Techs at work swear by it. Anyways let me know about the ECU.
