Default d16y7 into a 90 dx????

ok i know it i can't ust a hydrolick tranny so my best bet is to get a 4g si tranny....
BUT why do i have to get an si harness and ecu?
i have the stock d16y7 ecu and harness... can't i use them? or no
i have never done a swap so i'm not for sure.....
i have the motor, tranny, ecu, harness, and shift linkage........
whay can't i just drop it in w/ an si tranny useing it's factory harness and ecu?

You'd have to run it through the firewall. Easier said than done. Most people convert it to avoid that kind of hassle. I cut all my old stuff out and rewired everything.

forget using an Si harness, you'd have to change out the whole intermediate harness (from the engine bay through the firewall into the car), that would be retarded.

i have a 97 d16y7 in my 90 std which is DPFI just like your DX. All I did was use the stock Std./DX intake manifold, exhaust manifold, alternator, distributor, tranny, mounts and harness (basicallly i only used the d16y7 head and block) and everything works great. you'll have to mess with the coolant temp sensor wiring though. that's it.

the d16y7 intake manifold is crappy downdraft anyways, so don't bother converting to MPFI for just that manifold. if you get a 88-91 Si, or 92-95 EX/Si or 96-00 EX manifold, then it'd be worth it to convert to MPFI. Check the 4g/ZC wiring instructions on hybrid.honda-perf.org under the archive 4g swap section. To convert to MPFI you'll need an 88-91 Si distributor, ECU, injectors, injector resistor box. Or you could convert to OBD1 electronics but that's a whole different story...

Let us know what help you need along the way.

again, you can't use the Si engine harness unless you change the intermediate harness in the car which is a bitch (read: remove the whole dash).

do what you want though. for a SOHC swap it wouldn't be worth it to me.

what would i have to do exactley? do you have any pics of your swap? if so can you e-mail some to me?? spidere1@earthlink.net....... thanks a lot for helping!!

- so if i was going to use my dx harness how would i go about doing so?

You convert it to MPFI by following the instructions here:

http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/4gdxtozc.html

- if i use my 90 exhaust manafold aren't those my headers too?

exhaust manifold = header (on a NA car)

- if i got an si ecu will it clip right in?

yes, the ecu plugs in your car are the same as in an si, the ecu will plug in, but some of the pin locations for the wiring is different, but you'll fix that when you convert to MPFI as mentioned above.

- what about an hf/si tranny.... i only have a 4sp and i have it!

don't get an HF tranny, they have crappy gearing meant for fuel economy. an si or zc tranny would be great, 5-speed and good gearing for accelaration.

- what would i have to do exactley?

decide what you want to do first. stay DPFI? convert to MPFI? convert to OBD1? etc...

- do you have any pics of your swap?

no, but it looks pretty much like it did stock, except i degreased the snot out of the motor. also the y7 valve cover is silver not black, and the spark plug holes are on the opposie side of the valve cover.

- if so can you e-mail some to me?? spidere1@earthlink.net....... thanks a lot for helping!!

no problem.

- 1 more ? if 89 and up clutches are all the same can i use the clutch out of this 97 in my tranny?.......... my blutch is totaly burn't out..... i have 1st 2nd and a lil 3rd.... my peek mph is about 45-55 depending on up hill or what not.

You want to use the same clutch for whatever motor you put in your car. i think we got a 96 up clutch disc when we did our swap.

Good luck!

now if i swap out my intake manifold, exhaust mainifold
and dritributor it'll work.... then i can swap out for ans
si tranny and ecu.... i can convert it over to mpfi just as
if it was a zc and kinda splice smoe wires in..... does that sound about right/logical?
i know it's best to go w/ the motor years clutch but a buddy of mine has a stage 3 out of his swap that he cant use cause he has an 88 tranny!! i can get for next to nothing wold that work better? than hes got some reactive headers 4-2-1 low end like i want.... but are reactives worth while? or just a waste of time?

ok so i have to adjust the temp.? how is that?
i use.....
90 intake manifold
90 exhauset manifold
90 altinator
90 injectors and get a resistor box and 2 more injectors just like doing a zc swap to make it mpfi
i'm using my dx 4spd tranny till i find a good si tranny.....
what else do i have to do b-4 i start it??
