Default muffler question

i know this isn't really a tech question or anything, but i'm just curious if an OEM muffler will be alright with a turbo kit? the reason i ask is because my friend is going to borrow my OEM muffler tomorrow for legal purposes and he has a GReddy turbo kit. will my muffler come back with a rattle? or should it be able to withstand the excess pressure of a turbo? just curious, because i might need to use it later on myself.

how about if he uses my whole OEM exhaust system? will the turbo completly fry my system?

well from what i understand is that with the stock piping and stock muffler, your power will suck as there isnt big enough piping to flow all of the exhaust gases through, why not go with something 2.5 to 3"??

Would probably help if you read his post, its for legal issues, probably sound or smog. Performance isnt an issue. On a side note i have heard of people basically blowing the welds on an exhaust system from to much pressure, not sure if this will be the case.

I have heard this as well and it happens quickly after the hp upgrade.

It sounds like it will just be temporary. If that is the case just tell him to go easy on it. Although you shouldn't have to worry about it, if it is just for the short term.

yeah it should just be for a short time as he just needs to get it smogged. so it'll come back the way it was if he only uses it for a trip to the smog station, correct? thanks

Does your friend use a cat with his current set up? You understand that a cat back exhaust system doesn't affect emmissions? If he has no cat, then using your system will work, but as mentioned above, he better not get on it too much, or he could pop the muffler off the piping

yeah i understand that, but i believe he wants to use it for the reason that he has to go to smog ref because he got a fix-it ticket a while back. so i guess he just wants to be extra safe about it. i also believe he is running on his stock cat right now. thanks
