Timing Belt Tightness, d16y8 head d16y7 block
Did a mini me swap and decided to change the timing belt too. How tight do i make the belt on there?
I have it tight right now, no slack but its making a rubbing noise. checked it all and its not hung up on any teeth and its perfectly centered.

according to my helms manual you adjust the tension by doing the following :
* only adjust timing belt tension while engine is cold
NOTE:
* the tensioner is spring-loaded to apply tension to the belt automatically after making the following adjustment.
* always rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise when viewed from the pulley side. Rotating it clockwise may result in improper adjustment of the belt tension.
* Inspect the timing belt before adjusting the belt tension.
1. remove the cylinder head cover.
2. remove the upper cover.
3. rotate the crankshaft 5 or 6 revolutions to set the belt.
4. set the #1 piston at TDC
5. Loosen the adjusting bolt 180 deg.
6. rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise 3 teeth on the camshaft pulley.
7. tighten the adjusting bolt.
8. after inspecting, retorque the crankshaft pulley bolt.

a friend of mine just said i may need a different timing belt since its a d16y7 block and a d16y8 vtec head? is this true?

my brother just did a mini me after blowin his y8 bottom end the tensor is tight but still has a little slack in the belt i think he streched it out.. what belt are you guys using?

Here is the timing belt you will need to replace on the following cars and engines. How many miles do you have on your timing belt?:
96-99 1.6 (1590cc) Honda CIVIC CX, DX, LX, del Sol S D16Y7 4 cyl. 16V eng.
92-95 1.6 (1590cc) Honda CIVIC EX, Si, del Sol D16Z6 4 cyl. VTEC 16V eng.
