How do you keep CAI from touching battery terminal??
First off, I have a 89 CRX DX. I had a cold air intake on the car until it touched against my battery terminal, fried the battery wire, and burnt a small hole in the pipe. Now all I have on the car is the cone filter coming off the throttle body. I'm sure this is not enough air going to my engine, so again I'm looking for a CAI. Question is, how do you guys keep the pipe from touching the battery terminal? I've heard using electrical tape, but I'm sure that looks really tacky. Any ideas?
I sold the stock airbox on Ebay, or I would put that back on. Please help because I don't want to go thru the same hassle again. Thanks.

Or you can be cheap like me and use electrical tape to cover the portion of the intake pipe touching the battery terminal. I haven't checked it lately for corrision, but it seemed to work
Or you can get a battery that has the terminals switched around. So then you can turn the battery 180 degrees.
*just remeber not to hook up the cables backward!!!!!* You will pop your 60AMP fuse!!!

I just flipped the battery around so that the Positve terminal is not hitting the intake. I also bought some plastic covers for both terminals.

I'm was having the same problem. my intake isnt actullay touching the battery post, but its not even an inch away from it. for now i just put those plastic/rubber terminal covers on the posts, and hopefully they'll be ok
you have a couple of choices, like what people said
-move the battery, either being to the trunk, or flipped around so the ground terminal touches the piping
-or cover it, either it being the terminal or the acutal pipe.
i have a rubber gasket that covers where the pipe would hit the terminal.

i used those silicone fittings that come with ur intake to cover the part that might make contact with ur battery post. all i did was slice it in half and zip tied it to the intake pipe. works for me!
You want a stock airbox-maybe. I have run an ad for my Si airbox assembly before (send e-mial).
Anyway-you need to use the battery with the terminals on the engine side and put the Positive cable on so that it is facing away from the intake. My AEM short ram clears the terminals just fine and I even put a rubber cover over it. The terminals on the battery on my car are closer to the fender side-but a battery is available with them closer to the distributor, if that will help.

If you use the Del Sol battery it's reversed, so it moves the terminals toward the engine and away from intake. This is not true of all intakes but it is of the AEM CAI. The batterynumber is almost the same but its followed by a "R".
I did the ghetto way, i took a face cloth, wrapped it around the area that was touching it, and ziptied it there. I got a 1 piece Injen CAI and usually it doesnt touch the terminal, but when im working on the car n accidently move the intake itll touch, so i just put the cloth as a precaution
I just made a bracket and used one of the bolts that held the stock intake box in place, had the bracket go flush with the intake pipe, got a clamp, and tightened the clamp around the bracket. Snug as hell, doesnt budge, never had a problem since.
and it doesn't look ghetto because you can't even see it

Might as well just relocate your battery to the trunk. More room for intake and moving the battery to the rear will help in some even weight distribution. Batteries are heavy as ****!
