Default hybrid grille, mix and match

take a look at this picture. more specifically, part #3. this is the outer molding of my stock civic CX grille, already painted white from the factory.

now take a look at part #1 in this picture. it is the base to the SI grille. now i have a theory... can i put my stock CX grille molding on this SI base? that would give me an instant Type R grille, that i wouldn't have to paint, and would cost me 60 dollars. thanks for the help.

yes, unfortunately i havn't seen anybody do this, so its a 60 dollar risk for me

thats what got me thinking about this. i was gonna get a knockoff grille but it looks nothing like the real one, and i would still have to paint the thing! if my theory worked i could keep it OEM and wont have to paint jack diddly.

ok, i am not sure if i am going to get this exactly right. my bf has a 00 ex and tried to replace it with the si grill. he thought that it would work but now, he has to replace the stock grille molding with the si molding.

sounds right, ask him what the diff is. like lets say for instance the Si/CTR grills are a few mm longer or something.

Nope, will NOT work. go to the link below and check out the difference between the Si molding, and the Non-Si molding. The Si molding is much thicker than the Non-Si molding, therefore it will not fit.

True true. When I originally bought my Si grill I had the same thought. But when you look at the two up close, you'll notice how far away it would be from fitting.

i really want to be sure about this. because i have had my grille apart, and the molding looked just as deep without that black center section.

the Si grill is deeper than the other grills. The black inner piece is recessed a couple inches back, and on the others, ther is like a 1/4 inch recess. It wouldn't work, and if it did, it would look wrong. Just buy an Si grill from someone who has replaced it with a body kit, that is your best bet.

you can buy a sheet of that mesh stuff from summit or jc whitney for like $25 bucks, and put it in your stock grill, you jsut hafta cut out the plastic fin things.

I did it with home depot mesh, you can tell the difference and it cost me $1.99

pics are here....

and

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MxeTU0MQ%3D%3D

looks almost identical to the CTR and SI grills i have seen.
