any up grade to the motor is a good idea.. it just depends on how far you want to go with the motor..... if you are going with a totally built set up.. then yes it would be worth it.. but if you dont care about the motor too much then it would just be a waiste of money.....

No. Its a honda, the crank does not go through the oil, so you dont need to get it done, just micropolished and balanced.

knife edging a crack has nothing to do with it going through the oil, its to lighten the crank.

knife edging lightens the crank to have a lighter rotation mass when it spun inside the block...less drag. I have seen an almost spun main bearing got prevented because the crank was knife edged...

think about it this way, with less bulky crank, it is so much easier to turn, putting less load on the bearings to provide smoother rotation.

if your crank is out, I say go for it...

micropolishing is polishing the journal until it's shine and smooth that it makes it easier and lesser load on the bearing...

balancing is basically weight balance the crank to have an equal weight on both side. Honda crank usually doesn't need to be spin balance due the the direction of inline 4, transverse motor versus the V8 crank...

Usually they take all the parts that attaches to the crank like pulley, oil pump sprocket, flywheel and etc and balance it assembled..

again, if your crank is out, mind as well go for it...I can't think of any negative effects of having it done...

so it would be benificail only of you balance it WITH the flywheel, and pully of your choice right?

I wouldnt do it on a street car, just not worth the potential problems. Ive seen cranks go at the track and its not a pretty site. Id want mine as strong as possible, just micropolished and balanced if that.

yeah.

about the knife edging, if it's done properly, I don't think it would compromise the stregth of the crank itself, but again it comes down to the choice of a heavier stronger crank, or (if not done properly) a lighter, less chance of seized bearing, but less stronger crank...

It does look like a very time consuming process. I think I would spend that money on something else though.
