Default Somewhat OT, Check Engine Light Question

The Del Sol's engine light is coming on. It happens when the car has been sitting overnight and is cold,t he light does not go off however if I turn the car off and back on after it has ran for a few minutes the light goes of and stays off. The car seems to run fine when it is on. How do you pull codes from the CEL? Also I was thinkg it might be my o2 sensor going bad any suggestions?

Thanks

Here is some information on retreiveing the code. ITs for an Integra, but should be similiar

http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/03.php

If that fails, get a Helms manual - http://www.helminc.com

Ok I pulled the codes and it is either a 13 or a 14 and this is what that page says.

13 BARO Sensor (Atmospheric Pressure) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor

14 IAC Valve (Idle Air Control) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor

Any one know where these are located??? I have a helms manual and it is at home. I replaced the Thermostat last week so I wounder if I bumped the sensor or unplugged it.

Don't know if this applies to a Del Slo, but the Pressure Sensor in my Integra is located in front of the passenger door area under the dash.

The IAC is on the Throttle Body - should be attached to the butterfly valve/Throttle cable area.

If its is IAC, then your IDLE will be rough.

David,

Code 14 (IAC failure) Can also set for 2 silly reasons:

1) If the coolant system has an air pocket in it. Re-bleed the system and don;t use the silly bleeder screw (I beleive on the Si's it's on the upper hose/head junction), instead, jack up the front of the car and bleed it through the cap. This way it will "burp" and all will return to normal. Air pockets can sometimes be a real pain to get out. be paitient and don't rev the motor hoping it will speed up the process, you'll know when it's done when you find a puddle of coolant under the car after the air pocket pukes it out.

1)If a valve is too tight. For some reason will only set the code at cold start though even though the valve gets tighter after warm up. If you did a valve adjustment recently, recheck all the clearances.

Good luck..and I hope it's just an air pocket..

Jeff
[edit forgot about the tight valve]
