Default Custom 2-way downpipe installed!

As some of you might know, I recently got a "mild" turbo kit installed. On my B18B and my restrictive exhaust (almost stock w/ ITR muffler) my turbo was only giving me 2-4psi.

I recently submitted my car to be the test guinea pig for the modification in the pictures below and was quite pleased with the results.

The reason I did this modification is because 1) I daily drive it so I wanted it to be quiet so that the law enforcement officials didn't hear me from a kilometer a way. And 2) this is the family car (4dr Integra) so it has to be somewhat civilized. I've had different exhausts in the past and they were just ear-catchers or unnecessary attention getters.

Now with this new modification you can still have a quiet car for daily driving and for the track (through the control of an electronic switch mounted inside the car) have an open header design which will maximize all the mods on your car with a free flowing type of exhaust. In this case I now hit 6-7 psi at just under 4000rpm approximately which was my goal from getting a turbo kit to begin with.

It is still in the R&D stage, so placement of this electronic valve is still pending. I have driven it for the past 3 days and am very satisfied. We have already got some input into alternative designs (making the main pipe the one with the valve and having the stock flow rerouted around, etc) but any comments/feedback welcome.

This isn't the final product but a trial mock setup. But so far so good

interesting... glad it works... but wouldnt the exhaust pressure back up into the secondary pipe when it is it is switched off.... makes sense when you are at the track, but when daily driving... wouldnt the exhaust pressure back up into there anyways? i was just wondering by the looks of it.... you prolly know more....

good stuff

basically one side is opendownpipe, the other runs into regular exhaust

Thanks for the comments.

Yes we've discussed alterior designs and the point brought up regarding the trapped exhaust gasses when the valve is closed has been discussed.

Basically before this mod I would hit 2-4 psi in 3rd gear at WOT. With the mod and the valve CLOSED for some reason I hit 4 psi constantly. With it open 6-7 psi. So it did not look like the trapped gases were proving to be a detriment overall. But we are looking into other methods again so I'll try to keep all interested parties updated.

But since the valve would be closed just for your daily driving then the turbulance created would not really be that big of a deal, right?

That is correct. But to make it more efficient while it is closed, some people have suggested to route it differently. Like I said, with the way it is now, with the valve closed it runs slightly better than it did when I didn't have the valve although that could only be proven by getting some dyno numbers.

Exhaust cutouts have been on the market for years, you can buy one at most major racing stores.

Yeah, I've seen the el-cheapo ones with the cable running up through the floor board. But theres something about a custom setup that adds that touch of class.
(BTW: Which can be crushed very quickly if you have 20 inch rims and a triple decker wing )

i would do it so that it was a y pipe: one to the stock exhaust one to open downpipe. When closed, the exhaust would just go to the stock exhaust setup, when open it could go both ways, out the stock exhaust and out the open dump
this way you wouldn't have that nasty bend in the middle of the dp

wow...that's pretty neat. i have also had this idea for my sleeper. i like and have thought of your approach. if i used a throttle plate, i would have hooked it up to a wastegate actuator so it would open up the more i boosted. since that is my case, if i built a system like this, i would use a wastegate and routed dumptube. i like how yours is vouluntary.

I saw this on some truck show on TNN. They had the electronic openers and everything. Of course they were using a 455 BB.

Couldn't you bolt the remote opener
onto the end of the Jeg's piece?

Thanks for the compliments. The e-cutout was picked up from quicktimeperformance. All welds done by Ultimate Racing.

It does look like its going back into the shop for some design alterations as you will kind of notice in the first pic that its hard to access the oil filter now You can still reach it but makes it harder to access that's all.
