Just got back from SFP today, got a few questions and I need some tuners input. (LONG)
As stated above I went to SFP (South Florida Performance) here in miami, and I was talking to some of the tuners there about my setup.
Basically I want to keep it simple as I can without too many headaches. I only plan on running 8 pounds daily and I decided not to go with hondata just yet. However, I plan to get it somewhere in the future.
I already have 450cc injectors and resistor box and I was planning to go the vafc hack route or smc route but I found a really good deal on a fmu.
I see alot of people are having probs with the previosly mentioned ways and I really don't like the fact of my timing being full advanced with the hack method.
So I was recommended by SFP to go with a missing link, 6:1 fmu, 310 injectors, a 255 walbro intank. I told them I had the 450's and they said it would idle like crap even with a AFC.
What do some of u guys that have run this setup or similar think about it. I know most have already switched to a standalone, but how was it before the switch.
I would also like of the local dyno tuners on the board's advice as well. What do you guys think of this setup for the amount of boost i will be running.
TIA

I don't know, if you do a search on here about "the hack", you'll find tons of posts about how great it is... never any complaints about idling, only some complaints about the car hesitating a little if you let off the gas at a certain throttle point then mash it back down...
I'm planning on going with the VAFC hack, already have the VAFC. If you decide not to, can I have your 450cc's?

..this is why I stay away from SFP. Just run the AFC-hack like I did and like a few dozen other SOHC guys here including CivicRyda2K who basically runs my setup. Just last week I drove his car and aside from a slipping clutch, the thing pulls NASTY!!
AFC-hack works, it's been proven..
Oh yea, you mentioned simplicity, can't beat the AFC hack for that now can you? FMU's.. yea they rip/stick. Missing Link.. yea there's a nice billet piece of crap, mine kept getting clogged every 2-3 months and setting off a CEL, at least it looked good. Oh and then there's the addition of aninline pump as a secondary to supplement the increased fuel pressure at the rail if you ru nthe FMU...... sound simple? Like I said, AFC-hack

i installed and implemented my friends SAFC using RC 440's and it drove pretty damn good, I drove that thing around for a couple hours, and it maybe hesitated once or twice, like mentioned above.
I would much rather run the hack in my car than an inline pump and fmu any day.

ummm...im pretty sure sfp knows that theyre talking about, both ways works good. u just need to pick one.
For the price of a afc you can almost get Hondata s100 with boost.
I think you should save a couple of more bucks and then get hondata.

I would suggest selling the 450's, as I assume they are DSM injectors. Due to the strange impedence on these injectors theyw ill usually run ok, but have very hard starts. Go witht he RC 440's as they work much better.
As for the Hondata, save headaches down the road and do it right from the beginning. For $445-495 you can have a hondata with boost.

I agree..I only used the AFC hack because when Liam came up with it I already had one. Sold my RC injectors and FMU, bought DSM 450s, made money, car ran much better.
Otherwise, starting from scratch I'd go Hondata.
AFC hack isn't perfect, and you do need to retard timing a few degrees as usual since I believe the ECU advances timing as you go, but it runs much better than an FMU setup.

Granted, I'd start with Hondata too, but dno't forget it's not just the $500 for the S100, you need to add another $3-500 for tuning on top of that, so in reality a standalone becomes a quick $1k investment.

you have to tune the vafc set up as well though. but its still cheaper.
nonetheless, hondata is worth every extra penny that you spend on it. more stuff means more stuff to go wrong. thats why i dont like modified fmu/inline/bigger injectors/afc w/ or w/out hack/fuel regulator set up. too much crap then if u want to adjust the timing u have to buy an msd btm.

SFP will do their best to sell as much as possible without you even needing it. FMU = crap.i ran one for a few months and it locked up on me, twice. I'll be running my VAFC when the car comes out in the next week or so. well see how that turns out. ive heard nothing but good reports froim it though, and since im running a prelude, hondata is just way too expensive for me.i wish i could pick up a hondata for 300 bucks like all you people...life would be so much nicer, SFP quoted me damn near $2000 for a hondata and tuning
. for that i just run the aem ems.

Go hondata if you have the money. SFP isnt cheap but you get what you pay for. If they quote you too much then buy the hondata elsewhere and just get it tuned by them. trust me frank knows how to tune and he wont blow your car up. he did the hondata tuning on our street car and he will be helping us on the Speedpro tuning on the new setup.
we all know frank knows his tuning. no doubt about it. but as far as him not blowing up cars, never say never. hes good, but even good people fall down every now and then
I never said never anywhere in my post?? if the motor is built properly it should not blow up due to his tuning. he tunes fairly conservative unless its a race car and you tell him otherwise. let me put it this way. he has not blown up as many cars as cybernation due to poor tuning. Frank tunes motec, haltec, speedpro, hondata, aem ems, vafc, dfi. he has enough knowledge to not blow your car up over tuner error.
thanks for the replies everyone.
I see that a fmu is not the way to go. I guess that just having engine mangement and piping the only things left until I can put everything together kinda of clouded my judgement. I'll just continue to save because I want to do this right from the start. I mean I've had VTC's turbo since october so whats a few more months.
SFP quoted me 300 for tuning so thats 745 with hondata except the p28 and harness.
Now I gotta dump my girl friend and starve, just to have a fast honda.
oh well.

plus, might as well leave her, before she leaves you. avoid the "you like your car more than you like me" arguments, before they start.
he y i am not understanding? What injector should be used? I was going to get 440s this way i had somthing that was made for the car, Confused! I understand they are differant but Why is 1 beter than the other?
GRRRR on no understanding this Tunning crap~
