Default ACT vs Clutchmaster

Did a search of the title and some WTB came up...so your opinions would help!

I have an LS motor that is soon to be boosted.

I have a Clutchmaster stage 3 clutch and flywheel...it's my third set. For some reason I keep getting the defective ones. The first and second set chattered BAD! Now on the third set there is some kind of defect on the flywheel that when it stops in a certain postion the starter won't engage, I have to push the car and dump the clutch to move the flywheel a little and it starts fine. It does it about 5-10% of the time and usually if front of a bunch of people The thing is otherwise this clutch grabs great no chatter.

Is anyone else having problems with these clutches?
Is ACT better?
What would you recomend?

I'm thinking on trying an ACT Xtreme PP & hybrid street disc with the ACT 8.8lb flywheel.

Your flywheel &/or starter motor teeth are damaged. If you're happy with the clutch and it still has lotsa life, then just change the flywheel &/or starter. I'm using the Action segmented kevlar clutch and Fidanza fly and couldn't be more delighted, though I've only put 700 or so miles on the car with this setup.

I think it's more than a quincedence(sp?) that your having this much trouble with your clutch discs. Perhaps they're not being installed properly or your not breaking in your clutch disc properly.

I have a civic si and i changed the clutch to a stage 3 kit from cm a while back at 88k... and after 3k of break in miles i owned that clutch, ive broken one motor mount, many numerous bolts have fallen off the engine... it grabs hard and skips gears up to 4th.

a CM stg 3 is an aggresive clutch. Mine chatters, get used to it, you didn't get defective clutchs most likely you just weren't used to it. You don't know chatter until you have a 6 puck sprung cable clutch...the whole front end shakes...chatter is okay. Have you ever burned a cm? your only complaint it 'chatter'?

yes it takes some getting used 2 , i feel the stage 4 is the best because of previous experience w my old car a gsr swapped hatch i had the cm stage 5. I loved it but it was to much and i drove my friends gsr swapped hf w/ act 6 puck and it was more aggressive than the cm stage 5 and like siR said u really have to burn w/ those style clutches

The stage 3 that's in there does not chatter it grabs fine...I'm very used to it, it chirps third when needed. The problem is that some of the teeth on the flywheel are messed up and the starter won't engage 5-10% of the time. It's embarassing to go to your car in a crowded parking lot and it won't start, I have to push it ghetto style and everyone has a laugh on my expense I have the same clutch and flywheel in my wifes GS-R Her clutch is great. Other than that it feels spongy sometimes? I won the local auto-x in her car with a set of Victoracers a friend let me borrow!

My good friend (Honda Joe) who works at honda and has a lift in his garage is the one that helps put in the clutch...I have had to drop the tranny 3 times it's getting old.

My new ACT clutch and flywheel arrived yesterday and it's going in tomorrow, along with a HaSport rear motor mount (to reduce or eliminate wheel hop!). I'll keep you posted on the difference between the clutches. I have never driven an ACT clutch...but I hear that they're the shi@t!
