Default positive boost at idle w/ bosot timing retard from hondata?

hey guys-

I was talking with scott from http://www.tripledigitmotorsports.com tonight about our cars . . . balh blah . . we got to talking about axles for launching and so forth. I amde the statement that I'm not too woriied about them, as I'm going to have about 50 hp when i launch due to crazy lag of the t4 60-1 I will be running. He mentioned that he was reading up on the hondata boost timing retard and that by using this feature, a honda will actually create positive boost with no engine load.

I disagreed. My understanding of all this is that with a MAP-based car, it is impossible to build positive boost (ok, maybe 1 psi) with no load. On a MAF-based car however, it is possible, as it is based of of flow, and not load.

This isn't a pissing match of who is right/wrong, just trying to get some facts on this so we can both better our cars/setups. Any advice would be appreciated.

-Brian

first of all, you are a tool if u think a MAF car can spool a turbo better than a MAP based car. That said, you can build boost with drasticly retarded timing, because u are pretty much ignitign the fuel mixture as its leaving the ports. Lots of heat and expantion to feed the urbo energy
