it should snap off, there should be like 4-6 snaps, push them in and should come right off.

I think I had to get a small screwdriver and slowly pry around the outer edge.

Yeah, be careful because the little plastic tabs snap off easy. There should be adhesive all the way around so just separate it a little bit at a time.

ok tried the clips, but they look like they are gonna snap off. should i heat around the adhesive first, or just try prying very carefully?

also, with those with the reverse indiglo gauges, where did you mount the inverter switch?

you're gonna ruin your needles with those indiglos.

and on the plastic cover, just take your time. be patient. it'll break/snap/crack easily.

5 clips, pops right off. The clear peice and the black gauge surround come off as one peice. This pic might help, this is what's left after the bezel is off:

You can see 3 rectangular holes accross the top, and 2 accross the bottom, those are where the clips go.
When you're putting the gauge faces on, DO NOT try to remove the needles!!!!! especially the temp and fuel gauges. They DO NOT come off! the faces should have a big enough hole to gently slide over the needles. Also, make sure you got the right faces, what most companies list as 88-91 civic faces only fit the 88-89 civics. I've found that the faces that list 90-91 CRX's are the correct ones for the 90-91 civics as well. The main difference is the spacing between the temp and fuel gauges. but there are other diffs as well. As far as transformer placement, whereever it fits!!

Yeah take it apart like thumpu77 stated dont try and just take off the plastic first its a real PIA!! it can break very easy and second then you have to go and like silicone it back on. I did it the hard (and extremely long) way the first time I took one apart I didnt know it seperated like that.

on the DX style gauges they're removeable, and on the si cluster, the speedo and tach are removeable, but not the temp or fuel.

Are there any nice-looking gauges available for a 90-91 Civic HB Si cluster?

i left mine the way they are. ive got a set of ebay reverse indigay gauges with blue/red lettering. (they are actually kinda nice...not ricey like many others that ive seen.) but i painted the plastic around the gauge faces white to match. so the entire instrument cluster is white. so when you turn the lights on the gauges letters are bright blue and red and the background and needles are a slight orange. adjust the interior light switch so that you can see the needles but its not too bright. the light orange even matches the autometer gauges with the optional colors.

The needles are iluminated by the light just above the gauge cluster, and that light goes through an amber lens. what I did with mine that looks pretty cool is replace the amber lens with a transparent blue one. The needles glow blue now, but I still have the stock black face gauges. With white face reverse indiglo, you would make the whole gauge face glow blue. Another nice touch would be to paint the needles day-glo orange.

just order the ones that say they're for the 90-91 crx si, the easiest way to tell if they fit 88-89 or 90-91... the 88-89 si faces have 4 screw holes in the temp / fuel gauge, the 90-91 does not. the manufacturers have figured this out on the crx's, but not the civics.... even though they use the same gauge clusters.
