Default power steering belt experience

I removed my ps belt just for fun. It's been about a month now and I put it back on today. OMIGOD I've never steered a car so effortlessly!!

I know what you're sayin..i took mine off for a few days, and when I put it back on, I found myself turning the wheel way too far, and much faster than before..

You will see about 3 HP at the wheels across the board. I also prefer the feedback and roadfeel with no PS.

I had my ps belt brake off during a track event. All of a sudden i thought something locked up.
After realizing what happened, i found myself turning in too late on turns. Just have to get used to it i guess?

I had thought about doing that since I find the Integra's ps to be overboosted. But, I figured it wouldn't feel like the manual steering in my MR2 since you'll have to work the ps rack against the valves with no fluid being pumped in. How much harder is it?

The car definitely had more pep. I read in SCC that you're supposed to pump out the fluid so you don't have the added resistance of pushing that stuff around in there. I just wanted to try it so I didn't go through the trouble of removing the fluid. The steering felt wonderful above 5 mph but below that, it's just not worth it for a street car. It could be dangerous because at a dead stop it takes you about 3 times as long to make a "3 point" turn.

More input on daily driving with no PS. I have since removed the whole system and drained the fluid, but I haven't gotten the car back. If it's any easier than it was before, it should be perfect since I drove for about a year with just the belt removed.

Yes, you do get used to it. Once upto speed, there is not much more effort...

As for parking or other slow speed maneuvers: Lift weights (j/k). Seriously, just DON'T turn the wheel while you are at a dead stop. Start to roll, even a little, THEN crank the wheel. Once you get used to it, you can talk on the phone while drinking a coffee and parallel park .

Best part, is that it's FREE.

One caveat, I'm not sure on the long-term effects of having no ps fluid being circulated. I think you should reconnect it and let it circulate from time to time? I can't do that now, so we'll see.

I looked into manual racks, but the Civic racks are very slow. Some guy on the hybrid board had nice ones (in England?), but they are spendy...

Any input on long-term effects or maintenance ideas?

Thanks,

i've been w/out the P/S a week now, and its not bad at all, you can tell the power difference....or you can in the 1/4 mi numbers

hey berkel, you get your car back yet?
