I was wondering of anyone here has a stock LS with 60-1? I wanted to know how they are on the LS...ive heard that they take forever to spool but maybe it wuld spool a little better on the LS because it has such good low end? I want a beast of a turbo like this but i also want to stay in boost longer than 2k rpm's. I figure that it would prolly spool around 4k and reach full boost at 4.5-4.8k...is that right? Also i can get my ecu chipped for practically nothing...so where should i get my redline set at...what would be safe on a stock LS(i think its set at 6800 on a stock b18a?). What are your suggestion for a good highway turbo that spools up fairly quickly? Thanks.

T3/t04e is a great turbo...60-1 is way big for a stock motor. You won't be able to run enough boost to use it to it's full potential unless you don't mind blowing the motor after a couple of passes.

boostaholic has one on a stock motor and it sees 12psi @ 48-4900 rpm's.
ive thought about using a 60-1 on my motor alot. In the end I like the T04e 57/60 trim. they are 8% more efficient then a T04s 60-1, will spool up 500 rpm's faster and it only takes about 1 extra pound of boost to make the same power. Im sure the 60-1 would start to shine against the 57 trim in upwards of 400hp. boost is relative thats why they make boost controllers. For the LS I would choose the 57/60 trim and run an extra pound of boost or two and have a much more friendly powerband.

So you think i should go with the t3/t4? How hard do the t3/t4's pull in high rpm's? Ive heard that the power starts to drop off after 6k...i dont know how true that is though. What about precisions turbos? Which one would be good for me? Like i said...i want more top end then low end. Thanks.

Well im gonna be running stock cams for a while...will it drop off with the stock ones? What size t3/t4 should i get? I want a pretty big one so that i can have really good top end. And what about those precision turbos...which one is for me? Where can i find them?

u can get precision turbos from arturbo, contact him if u want to properly size a turbo for ur motor. I Would persoanlly go w/ the SC44 if u want alot of efficiency and alot of top end power.
DiRep is hitting it on the head of what i have been trying to tell people for the past few months about the 60-1. If you drive on the street, and want a good efficient compressor than go with the 57/60 trim. The 57 trim is better suited to 1.6 and 1.8L's, the 60 trim is a bit better suited to 2.0 and 2.2L's. With my 2.0 gsr block i am efficient with the 60 trim at 6psi and dead in the heart of the efficient at 14psi (my maximum boost level on pump gas). When i ran my old 60-1 you could feel the car wasnt efficient until i got over 12psi on my stock internal gsr block. The difference in the pull of the turbo was dramatic. The 60 trim will be efficient till around 25psi, where the 60-1 would be able to efficient a bit past that. If i was getting a turbo LS my choice hands down would be the 57 trim compressor and .63a/r exhaust housing. A good, broad powerband is more important to me than peak horsepower numbers for a daily driven car.
How do you guys feel a 60trim T04e/t3 would work on a stock LS w/ Skunk2 IM for now.
I am torn on the SC34 (57trim/.63a/r) and SC44 (60trim/.63a/r).
I want to add some of Rocket's LS turbo cams when there are offered along w/ building the block ect..

I know that this question has been beaten to death...but what tranny should i use. I have been told by MANY noteable honda gurus that the LS tranny would be better for boost. This seems logical to me seeing as it has such tall gears which means i will stay in my powerband longer. But now people onhere are saying that im stupid and that the b16 tranny is the best for turbo...i honestly dont see how that would be because you will just fly through the gears...and the LS' 6800 rpm redline would come pretty quickly under boost. Thats just what im thinking anyway. TIA for the help.

You just said it yourself, "you'd just fly through the gears". You are going to be faster since your gearing is shorter, and your acceleration is faster. Turbo lag is much less noticable with a shorter gear'd transmission.

getting dyno numbers in early march, for you guys who are curious about its power

So are you saying that i should go with the 57/60 trim 60-1 or the t3/t4?
a 57 trim is a 57mm wheel, w/ 6 blades. a 60 trim a 60mm wheel w/ 6 blades. Common sense tells u a larger wheel will flow more air and more blades flows more air too. but more blades is less efficient and takes longer to spool.
damn, that's what spring break will do to Chris...
I ran 60-1 Hifi, I was running at aroun 6.5 psi, to be honest with you, at that boost level, the turbo is still OUTSIDE the efficieny range of the compressor map...
then I borrowed Chris's boost controller and turned it up a notch to about 8 psi which kidna put it on the edge inside the efficieny range on the compressor map, and all I can tell you is that the turbo OPENED up and it felt so much nicer at so lil boost increase, my MPH literaly went up by 5 mph just by adjusting from 6.5 to 8psi
my 54 trim at 7.5 psi felt a lot more pull than 60-1 at 6.5, but again, a lil boost increase made a lot of difference...
moral of the stories, 60-1 is a medium to high boost turbo, if you;re settling down on less than 10 psi ish, go with 60 or 57 trim...
57 trim is nice.....very efficient in it's class and pulls a lil more as well...
if your really wanted an EFFICIENT turbo, go with 50 trim...to me it's one of the most efficient wheel available out there...small exducer but largest inducer diameter out of all the T04E family wheels...
PS: 60-1 is basically T04B wheels on steroid...is not as efficient as the T04E wheels, but due to it's size, it's basically an air flowing turbo...hence it loves medium to high boost level..

a 60-1 is a T3/T4. the 60-1 is the name of the wheel. a 60-1 wheel has 60mm blades. It has 7 blades. it generally comes in a t04s housing. if it comes in a T04e housing it is called a "hifi 60-1"

From what I've heard from people's experiences .. everyone is telling me to go with a 60 trim or 50 trim for my stock ls motor running the AFC Hack (9.5) psi.. and to stay away from the 57 trim because it is not as efficient as the 60 trim.. But the 50 trim will spool faster than the 60 trim. Any suggestions?
FWIW I put down 282whp on 7psi of boost on my totally stock ITR motor w/ a Turbonetics 60-1 HIFI turbo. It is indeed outside of it's efficiency range at that low boost level, but was still totally streetable and a blast to drive.
I'm slightly building the motor right now in order to turn up the boost to get the turbo into it's efficiency range
