HELP!!! Timing belt tensioner bolt stripped....
Started changing a timing belt on a 96 Integra GS-R. Got my 14mm 6 point socket, torqued on it and it slipped. So after trying again, the damn bolt got totally stripped.
We lowed the motor, and tried tapping a 13mm 12 point socket into place. Torqued on it and it slipped.
So what should I do? I have a new tensioner + bolt, but cant get the old one off.
I'm thinking of grinding the head off the bolt off and trying to remove the rest of the bolt with some vise grips.
What do you guys think?
TIA

If you grind the head off it should just release the tension of the bolt. You shouldn't even need vise grips, should be able to twist it out w/ fingers. If you have a welder, weld metal pipe or piece to it, that should work also. Good Luck!

usually the bolt is torqued to no more than 40 ft-lbs ... so you can actually grind a slot into the head to use the huge flat bit socket similar to a flat bit screwdriver but at least 1/2" wide ... yu use a 3/6" wrachet for this flat bit ... Home Depot sells that.

We heated the bolt with a propane torch (useless), and tried using an impact driver, wouldn't budge. for a bolt that's supposed to be torqued at 40 ft-lbs, it's on real tight.
Might try slotting the bolt before grinding it away.

Hey Eric, did you try a Bolt Extractor?

I've been there. I was able to yank the motor and get right up to it, but when it's in the bay, you've got like 3 inches of clearance, it absolutly sucked. Sorry for j00...
Eric, I've broken a few of those in my time, and I'm sure this would be another.
As for 12 points, they are great for installing flywheels, pressure plates + stripping bolts.

Well I picked up a side grinder and had some fun. After 15-20 minutes of grinding and laughing, the bugger came out!

And I was able to remove the remainder of the boltby hand!
Thanks!
