What year is your car????
My master cylinder is bad and I still can spin first and chirp second....and my car has the original clutch in it.

Best thing to do is check the shaft that connects to the clutch pedal to see if there is any signs oil.

Seems like the clutch master and slave cylinder are common problems that occur on 4th Gens

Hmmm, that could be a reason too. Does it only happen when you try to put it in 3rd??

I dont think it would be synchros if you are having the prob in high rmp..

If you a revving high, the synchro should have plenty of speed to match 2nd-->3rd.

If you a revving low...It wouldn't have enough speed to go 2nd-->3rd, hence grinding.

This is why on old cars, before synchros...you would have to rev match.

mind you...my tranny knowledge is limited.

Can anyone disprove or verify this??

i have the same problem, only the stick feels hard to put in all gears, only at high rpms though. at low rpms it feels fine. also, if i put it in gear, and keep the clutch pressed in, then rev the engine the car tries to move. im going to start with the slave cylinder since it was only 20 bucks.

If it was your clutch master/slave you wouldn't be experiencing clutch slippage. You would have a spongey pedal and difficulty getting it into any gear, especially at a stop. RIght now my jeep has this problem. When I am moving and can rev-match it works just fine.
