Please help with clutch problems!
Hi,
The clutch in my 95 GSR recently feels really "loose". The "freeplay" is pretty long and the engagement point is like less than 1 inch from the floor. In the morning, I couldn't shift into gear unless I pump the clutch pedal a few times.
When I looked at the clutch reservoir, I found the fluid level is pretty low. I tried to fill it back up but it doesn't seem to help. I checked the master cylinder and there is a little wetness but doesn't seem to leaking severely. Is the master cylinder really breaking down? What should I do to find out the problem? It doesn't seem that the clutch is slipping. Is the master cylinder in GSR common to have problems? Or are there problems related to the clutch that I may not know of?
Please help! I am quite worried on driving my car these days. Thanks

The clutch master cylinder is infamous for taking a sh** on Civics and Integras. I just replaced mine yesterday. Mine was leaking grease all over the "fire wall" and did a great jorb making my carpet greasy.
I don't think replacing the clutch MC would solve your low pedal problem. I highly doubt it's your clutch that would cause this. Bleed the entire system and then check the slave cylinder...

So would bleeding the clutch would make pressure come back if there is air inside the line? Is this where the air goes in the line when the reservior is too low?
In general, would clutch fluid "evaporates" over a long period of time through places like the reservoir? Or must there be some leaking occur such that the fluid level goes low? How often are other places besides master cylinder would leak?
Thanks

They usually leak from the cylinder.. try bleeding it first though. Do you know how to do it? Just pump your clutch petal a bunch of times until you get pressure back, then open the bleeder bolt to let the air out, then tighten it back up. Do that a few times until a stream of fluid comes out (instead of air). Good Luck.
G3GSR: Did you grease everything up after you changed your clutch (esp around the fork)? Usually ppl forget to do that and it squeaks.

It won't "hurt" you but it's definitely beneficial to grease up the clutch fork pivot point and output shaft on the trans to prevent a squeaky clutch pedal.
