driving w/out thermostat
Has anyone tried this, heard the engine will run cooler and be a little faster. Worth it or will I mess something up, I know I get no heat so will hook back up when it gets cold
Whatever you do please don't run without a thermostat. The purpose of the thermostat is to regulate how quicky the water flows back to the radiator to be cooled. If the water flow too quickly it will not pick up the heat that it's supposed to remove from the motor. Sure your temp guage may read nice and cool, but what's really happening is the motor itself is overheating. Please leave the thermostat in there, it really does have a purpose.
Believe it or not it is not "colder the better" when it comes to engine temp. You will actually rob your engine of power by running to cold. Your engine is designed to run at a certain operating temp and that the reason for the thermostat.

First of all this is a bad I idea, how ever theoretically the cooler your engine is the less heath loss there is and heat equals power. A carnot engine model is an example of a perfect I.C.E, in its case there is zero heat loss which includes friction abviously and radiant heat loss (our topic) which alows a 100% effeciency, this of course is not possible in the real world but 4DoorGSR is wrong is saying cold is not better, trust me if Honda engineers could get the R to run at room temp they would, and I gaurentee you the HP output would be well over 195
yah..dont run without a thermostat. And if you guys remember your basic rules of efficiency, the way to get the most power/best efficiency out of ANY internal combustion engine is to have the greatest temperature differential between the intake and exhaust temps.
Thanks for the answers guys but I actually forgot I posted this and ended buying the mugen thermostat. Now I could put a mugen sticker on my car j/k.
