Help with y8 intake manifold swap please
Ok, I think I have everything hooked up correctly so far, but I have one connection that I can't figure out where its supposed to go. It is the hard line that is connected directly below the line that goes from the valve cover to the intake. The end that has the hose that goes down to the block is connected, but there is no hose connected on the part of the hard line that points towards the driver side of the car. So I am just trying to figure out where I am suppsed to connect this to. Is is a coolant line? or just a vaccum line?
http://www.makuragi.s5.com/civic_99/...m%20source.jpg
Also, in this picture, I just have the evac/purge vaccum source plugged because I think I Just used the cruise control vaccum source on the back of the manifold for that thing. But I may be mistaken. I am still very confused about which sensors/valves are what.
If anyone could help me out a bit here it would be very greatly appreciated. Or if you could just point me towards somewhere that I could see some pictures or something.
thanks in advance

Still need some help guys
I am pretty sure that this hose used to go to a coolant connection that sticks straight up from just to the left of the intake runner that is farthest to the passenger side (real close to where the intake mani bolts to the head). But on the y8 intake manifold there is no connection like this. So where the heck am I supposed to run this hose to?

i can't exactly make out what you're saying. is this manifold a y8 mani? if not there will be an extra vacuum hard line that you can just plug. the y8 only has about two or three vaccum lines on the mani. i don't have my y8 but i think there's only two.
the cruise control uses a bottom line in the back of the mani that goes up and connects with a t valve on the driver's side (right). those are all vacuum lines. the only coolant line you have is on the left side of the mani and it's bigger than the vac ones.
I responded to your other post about the sensor.
The 'hard line' you're talking about, is it not connected to anything? ie, both ends of the line are disconnected?
If they are, then I think it's what connects the valvecover vent to the intake tubing.
If one side is connected, follow to see what it's source is.

yeah, this is a y8 intake manifold going onto a d16z6 engine/head. And I don't have cruise control, just to clarify that. I think I have the sensor thing kinda figured out. But I am still trying to figure out what to do with this extra coolant line. It basically runs from the back of the head or block (can't see it real well) back up and runs underneath the breather line that goes from the valve cover to the intake arm. Then on the z6 manifold, it went to a coolant connection that stuck straight up just to the left of the runner farthest to the passenger side of the car. On the y8 manifold, there doesn't seem to be a third coolant connection like this. There is only the larger connection, and the one that comes off at a right angle from that.
I'll see if I can't find some pics to kinda try and expain myself better, but I don't have a digi cam...so I'll see what I can come up with
thanks again for the help

actually, this is the line that is just right below the valve cover breather line. The one end hooks into what I would guess would be the head maybe, right under the intake manifold. It is right next to a couple of other larger what I am assuming are coolant lines.
*EDIT* I just found some pics of a z6 manifold, I am working on chopping them to show you guys what I am talking about. Pics should be up in like 10-15 mins

Ok, here is the pic I found....

So, the red line is the main coolant line that circles back down and connects to the same thing that the lower radiator hose is connected to. The blue line is from a coolant connection that is kinda hidden, and that runs to the sensor/valve thing right under the throttle body. Then the green line shows how the coolant line is supposed to go from that connection, up to the hard line that is connected right under the breather hard line for the valve cover, and then it goes down and connects in just to the left of where the red line goes.

here is the y8 intake manifold (got the picture from http://www.makuragi.s5.com/civic_99/Y8maniswap/ hopefully they won't mind)
So, the red line is hooked up, and the blue line is hooked up, but there is no place for where the green line is supposed to hook up to. Hopefully this makes sense.
*EDIT* ok, I think I see what I need to do now, I am just going to tee this line into the larger hose that runs to the back of the engine. Thanks a ton for your help! I very much appreciate it!

there is no green port on the y8. the red and blue take care of the job so there is no need for the green. the z6 needed the green because the bypass hardline was only a one port.
Oh, hmmmm, so, do you think I can just cap that third line off at the block? or should I still try to tee it into the other coolant line?
uh, not sure. i don't have a my y8 anymore so it's difficult for me to tell you. inspect those lines very well and if it isn't needed then give it a try. you should be fine.
hehe, thats cool, I think I am just going to tee it into the other coolant line. I think it should work out ok. I'll be back in a bit, gotta run to the store to get me some fittings
thanks again

thanks again
lemme know what kinda improvements u feel when u get this thing running. i'm wondering if i should get a y8 manifold for cheap for wait for skunk 2 or edelbrock to finally release theirs.
ok im not sure if this is gona answer the question...but what i think your asking is where to the 2 brass hose connections on the manifold hook up too.
the bottom one hooks to the Pcv hose coming off the block......the top one is for the brake booster..
not sure if this help cause i wasnt sure what the question was

Ok, well, I got everything hooked up and working right. The old butt dyno is kinda hard to judge right now because I have been driving around my parents truck for the last 3 days, so anything feels like a rocket compared to that. But it still feels like it pulls a bit harder, especially in 3rd and 4th. I'm going to have to do some more testing
but I really felt VTEC kick in pretty good in first gear when I got to drive around for a bit.
So, this took me for friggin ever to do, but it was fun and gave me a lot more knowledge about my car, and how to improvise and not screw things up. I give it a
Thanks very much for your help again guys!
*EDIT* I think this is a very worthwhile upgrade, especially if you already have i/h/e and what not. Just because if you do everything yourself, and you find a good deal on everything (I got my complete intake manifold for $80) its pretty cheap over all. It's a lot of work, but I'm pretty sure that my situation was an exception.

and while the intake manifold is off.. might as well install that 3rd motor mount bushing...
and while the intake manifold is off.. do a nice port/polish job with your dremel..
it never ends
hey i read this post too late, but I put a 99 Y8 mani and head on my 92 dx d15b7. I have alot of pics of the details, lemme know if you need any help. BTW, I also got a plastic T splitter from home depo for the coolant line situation, no problems!

Now I just have to start saving up for a nice junkyard turbo setup! YAY!

bringing back old post,,,
buskethead,
do you have any pictures of your swap? how hard was this to do?? any tips or tricks? worth while?
anyways, get back to me if you can.

Don't know if it'll help ya, but here's some pics of a stock Y8 intake manifold:
