Default Todays JDM Type R compression test.

2000 JDM Type R

I tested it in class today, and here are the results:

185, 185, 187, 185

Good? Sound about right for a stock engine?

I'm happy now, knowing I have a good engine from over seas.

The numbers are really close together which from wat I read is the most important thing. They do seem a bit low though as the JDM Type R engine I believe has 11:1 compression with our 10.6:1. When I tested the compression in my 98 back in February I believe the numbers were in the 220's. Did you do the test with the throttle all the way open? Anyway I wouldn't worry about it and be happy that the numbers are so close

How is the compression test results affected on a cold motor vs warm?

It should be warm correct?

should be warm. honestly I've never tested the same car cold and warm so I don't know how much of a difference it makes.

I know the most important thing is to not have each cylinder vary. But why do some motors have low numbers, and others have higher numbers, but both motors will put out good numbers on a dyno and pull hard?

Is there any way to calculate the compression ratio using a cylinders psi?

when your engine is warm, the metal expands and the oil helps the rings seal better.

It should be at operating temp when doing it..

I can't believe I forgot this today, I was in a big hurry I guess....
