Default Typical Retail Short Shifter Lengths?

I'm cutting my shifter tomorrow, I was just wondering if anyone knew some typical lengths of retail short shifters. I dont want to go too far or not far enough...

ok, this is a good and interesting question. I would like to know the answer also. I've seen some pictures comparing stock shifters and short ones. I don't know where they are, though.

I talked to a Skunk2 distributor today and he said the ones he sells are 12" long.

PACESETTER ADJ.
Get flick-of-the-wrist shifting with Pace Setter's Quick-Shift Adjustable Throw Shifter. By allowing you to adjust stick height and shorten shift throws by up to 80 percent, These Quick-Shifts offer faster, more precise shifting. These one piece polished and chrome plated shifters are formed from an extremely durable steel alloy and use Pace Setter's exclusive AdjustaBall shift ball, which features low friction and extreme long life characteristics.
And while looking at my summit racing catalog, it says neuspeed reduces shift throw by 30-50%

so there you have it...just make the lower part that much longer (so you have leverage and more movement) by a percent within those ranges (I probably wouldn't do the 80%....I'd stay within the 30-50% or less) and you'll have yourself a short shifter. I hope that makes sense...

incase it doesn't.....here is an example procedure...
measure from the center of the ball to the center of the pivot. Multiply this number by 1.x to get the new "short shifter" legnth. (1.3 for 30% shorter...1.5 for 50% shorter)....this will only be the case if you only add to the bottom but don't add to the top. It gets even shorter if you cut from the top, but isn't the same. Ok, that just got way too confusing.

Well, I think you can figure it out, but keep in mind that the bottom supposedly can hit the exhaust if it is "shortened" too much....I'd take some measurements if I were you.

Tell us how it goes.....I know it is past your scheduled date for this project.
