Default EGT question...

I just installed my autometer probe on my dp (on the flange). I'm seeing about 1200F while boosting about 5psi... is this normal? What temp should I be getting on freeways (around 10 right) and what temp should I try not to be in??? Also, if I'm not boosting I don't smell anything coming from my engine but if I'm boosting hard I can totally smell (the vents) like something is burning... Is that normal? After a min of non boosting the smell goes away. Anyone have this problem or know if there is a problem?

you need the probe to be on the manifold, very close to the port.the downpipe is not a very accurate place to measure it.just drill it with the car running and you won't have to take anything apart.my car usually peaks around 1550-1600 under boost and sometimes as much as 1200-1400 when crusing. as far as the smell goes,if you have an open dump tube on your wastegate, that could be what you are smelling.an old setup i had,the wastegate was high on the engine with a short ump tube and i smelled something simular to what you are describing.on my current setup,it goes all the way down and out the side and i never smell it anymore.

Ya most pple do the manifold b/c it's more accurate but autometer says your probe should be drilled into dp also, cast manifold is freakin thick to drill through and I'm not going to take a chance and drill it without taking it out. Also, it was too expensive to take the manifold out just for that. As for boosting if it's around 1550 to 1600 then thats fine with me. Also, thanks for solving my burnt smell situation b/c I do have a open dump tube that sits a little hi.. Thanks man, makes me sleep a lot better now

1550 to 1600
That seems kind of high for the DP. What are your intake temps?

acutally I'm seeing around 1200F on the dp, but if 1550-1600F is on manifold then I should be fine (giving 2--F difference on dp).

i am telling you,you can drill it with the car running.any pieces of metal will blow right back out the hole you make.we have been doing it that way at work for years now with no problems.
p.s.my probe is in the manifold, very close to the port.
