Do you have spark or fuel pressure? Maybe clogged injectors?

It was most likely your main relay or the rotor in the distributor. Personally I have had no problems with the rotor as of now, but I did have to fix my main relay. There are 2 things that you can do to fix the main relay.

1. You can replace the whole unit for about $60 CAN ($40 US)
2. Re-solder the old soldering points on the main relay as they crack due to age and won't allow for proper circuitry flow.

http://www.crxsi.com/resources/repair/fixing_main_relay/

crxsi.com has a great How-To article on main relays. Check that out. If it's the distributor, someone else who has had problems with it will have to drop their 2 cents.

I had that same problem once. I had spark, fuel, timing etc.... Turned out to be the screw backed its way out of my rotor in my dizzy. Back firing came from having the spark at the wrong time. (Rotor was free spinning in the Dizzy)....... Take your cap off and check that first......

Similar sounding thing happened to me, the car all of a sudden bogged really bad and then died. Ended up being the igniter (which there was a recall on a long time ago). Something to check. If it is that, the dealer will fix it for free.
