I just put in a new tranny and I got the axles out. I alos got them in. The passenger one fits fine, and the driver one goes in, but it won't stay locked in. I didn't put a set ring either one, but the passenger stays locked in. The driver will go in all the way, but it can also come out about an inch. Can someone tell me if I need to put a set ring in the little groove of the end of the axle.

 

Yes the rings need to be in there. Its not a smart idea to remove them. Put them back in.
