Detonation... Need Opinions!!! Going to Court!!
How can one tell if detonation occured in an engine? My car was stolen and was running right before the theft. Three pistons were broken and my insurance company says that the engine damage was due to "detonation due to improper management resulting from a turbo charger installation." I have a 92 Civic with a second gen B16 and Revhard Stage 2. Is it possible for the thief to damage the engine by abusive and aggresive driving? I need as much input as possible. I am taking my case to court because the insurance company is supposed to fix the car to the state it was in before the theft. Like I asked before, how hard would it be to drive a car on one cylinder? Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!
good luck, unless you actually told your insurance company about the after market goodies, and paid the premium each month, you're probably out of luck.
Some insurance companies will cover anything that bolts onto the car though...so read your contract.
regarding detonation, it can occur from a host of things....incorect plugs, no tuning, poor conditions, etc.

and generally speaking, you really couldn't drive a car on one cyl. not very far or very fast at least.
good luck
Why do people have to f*ck around? While the engine was being taken apart and checked, someone stole my amp and sub!!!!
listen, i had my car stolen in october. contract says will pay "actual cash value". that means what it says. had to get a lawyer but I plan on collecting what the car was worth (and it was alot more than the stock car would have been). usually you will have to get an appraisal (even if the car is gone) and that means have your receipts ready. they will also have an appraisal and then usually the two agree on an arbitrator. do not accept what they offer you. they love when people do that.
sorry to hear about your loss but you can tell a lot of things by reading spark plugs. if your engine was detonating you will see marks on your spark plugs like burn spots, thats about the best i can describe it.
